Chief's 400 Watt MH/HPS.. 150 Watt CFL + 1000 Watt HPS.. Bagseed/Clone Tent Grows

Whats good RIU:blsmoke:
This will be me and my roommates first grow journal on this site. So I hope a lot of you more experienced growers will subscribe and pitch in any helpful tips and information you have learned from your own grows.

This is the first tents set up. The tent is 5x3x3 and there is an Apollo 400 MH/HPS light system with the reflective hood set to 18/6 on 50 percent power. The seeds were germinated for 48 hours in a paper towel and then planted into Fox Farms Ocean Forest. There are 6 seeds in all, 4 of them are in 4.02 gallon pots and the other 2 are in 1 gallon pots only because they were extras and I am not sure if I am going to keep them or not. The seeds were bag seeds but if I remember correctly the strain is "Chernobyl", which is some pretty stank smoke. They have taken root and I expect to see sprouts start popping up tomorrow morning. The pot way in the back in the middle of the two 4 gallon pots has Jalapeno seeds in it lol. I enjoy peppers and wanted to see if I could successfully grow some in the tent:weed:
IMAG0009.jpg IMAG0010.jpg IMAG0011.jpg IMAG0012.jpg
The second tent is a bit larger, 7x5x3. Right now it has a 150 Watt CFL with a reflective hood on 24/0. There are 4 clones in there at the moment with more on the way soon. I am not sure what strains they are, Ill have to ask him later lol. I do not believe they have taken root yet and they are looking a little sad but hes got high hopes for the front 2 and is going to give them another week or 2 to start growing. When they are ready for flower a couple months from now he has a 1000 watt HPS with a big reflective hood ready to go in the tent.

Both of the tents have ducting but not the proper type of fans for good ventilation. We have all ready picked inline fans out and are going to have them quickly shipped. But for now there is no issue seeing as how none of the plants are growing yet and there is no overheating in the room. Temps stick around 75 to 82 and will steady out around 72 to 75 once we get our inline fans hooked up.

As I expected, a couple of the sprouts have broken soil this morning about an hour before the light is scheduled to turn off:clap:. I am happy about that and happy to finally get this journey started. Temps in the seedling tent at the moment is 78 degrees Fahrenheit and dropping, humidity is steady at 39 percent. Humidity always jumps up when the light is off, usually around 80 percent:shock:. I am gonna need a dehumidifier for flower but that is a long ways down the road. All of the soil in the pots is nicely saturated with distilled water I bought from the store. I will be keeping the Metal Halide light on 18/6 for the duration of veg.
IMAG0030.jpg IMAG0023.jpg IMAG0024.jpg IMAG0025.jpg

No change on the status of the clones in the larger tent. Some of them look good, others don't. But since it is my buddies project and I have never messed with clones before, I am just gonna wait and see what happens with them:p. We are not to worried about it because we have a stock pile of clones from the same 3 strains. Plus other plants in other locations. So these have less than 2 weeks to show a change or they will get moved aside and scrapped so that fresh plants can be put in. But I like the look of a couple of thembongsmilie
IMAG0029.jpg IMAG0028.jpg IMAG0027.jpg IMAG0026.jpg

It is almost the end of day 7 for the sprouts. The light is scheduled to turn off in a little less than an hour and a half now. All in all the seedlings are looking great, and are growing at the expected rate. 1 week down, another 15 to go lolbongsmilie
IMAG0041.jpg IMAG0045.jpg IMAG0038.jpg IMAG0037.jpg IMAG0036.jpg IMAG0032.jpg IMAG0031.jpg
I started out with 7 pots in the 400 watt tent, 6 were Chernobyl seeds and the last had Jalapeno seeds in it. The Jalapeno seeds I just gave up on because I searched the pot and didn't find anything that even remotely resembled roots or even the actual seeds. I also took out one of the small one gallon pots because that seed never sprouted. So I am left with 5 seedlings which is more than I need anyway:weed:. I know the soil looks pretty parched on top, but I watered a couple of days ago so I know they don't need to be watered just yet. Possibly tomorrow though, they are big pots but they sure do dry up fast with the 400 watt MH in there.
The 5th pic from the left is of the only plant that grew these peculiar leaves. I have never seen a plant grow leaves that strange in any of my grows but I am sure there are people out there that have seen this before. I assume it is genetics? or maybe something to do with soil? I do not have a clue lol. Who has an idea? It is growing normally now so I have no reason to suspect it is a dud and I am going to grow it out with the others instead of scrapping it:p

The 7x5x3 tent is doing good as well. My buddy took out some of the dead clones and replaced them with fresh cuttings. A couple of them have definitely taken root and have started growing, so were happy about that. Still procrastinating on setting up all of the 6 inch ducting on the big tent though. It is not a problem at the moment because it is winter and it is f**king cold lol, so no overheating and the lights prevent it from getting to cold. We received two 6 inch inline fans in the mail the other day so we have everything we need for that tent, just have to set it up. I still need to order a 4 inch inline fan for my 400 watt tent. As well as some 7.0 ph calibration stuff for my ph tester. But we are definitely moving forward:bigjoint:

Pic of the best clone so far.

I'll be following as well! I would love to see what a 3x3 and the 5x3 can yield if your doing the duel tent? How do you have the CFL and the 1000 watt set up ready to go? I would like to run 2 tents after I get my first grow out the way. I plan on getting a 5x5 next and have that to help with flowering. I might be running all autos next grow depending on how well I yield on my first run.

Awesome! glad to have you along Zspy:eyesmoke:. Yea this will be like a test run for our next grows, just to see what kind of quality and quantity we can produce with these tents and lights. Were going to remove the 150 watt CFL and stuff the 1000 watter into the 5x3 tent probably within the next week. As well as set up the ducting and inline fan for it. After this grow we plan on using the 5x3 to flower and the 3x3 to veg in a perpetual grow. Best way to do it lol:weed:.
I have never personally tried to grow autos before but it is always interesting to watch other people grow them. I will check out your journal in a little bit, I am interested to see what kind of stank you got growingbongsmilie lol.

Well it is another Monday morning and about two hours from the end of Day 14 for the vegging plants in the 5x3x3 tent. They have all grown significantly in the past week, still got a ways to go but at least now I got something to look at lol.
IMAG0057.jpg IMAG0058.jpg IMAG0059.jpg IMAG0060.jpg IMAG0061.jpg
I plan to top them all at their 5th set of nodes, so after these 7 bladed leaves grow out then I will pull the tops off. After that I only plan to top them all one more time before I push them into flower sometime around week 6 depending on how big or small they are. I just watered them all two days ago, will do so again when they look like they need it sometime in the next 2 to 3 days. Will most likely not start feeding any nutrients till sometime in flower. This is my first time using Fox Farms Ocean Forest potting soil and so far it has not been a disappointment. All though I prefer the Dr. Earths Homegrown POTting Soil, killer stuff. Temps are staying between 75 to 81 during the day and 63 to 66 at night. Any questions, comments, or suggestions are welcome!

The 7x5x3 tent is doing okay as well. Many of the clones took root last week and have been steadily taking shape. We switched the light cycle from 24/0 to 18/6, turning it on and off at the exact same time as my 3x3 tent. We also took out the square black fan for now and put in a little white oscillating fan to give the plants a little bit more air circulation down at the bottom of the tent. We plan on taking out the 150 watt CFL and throwing in the 1000 watt sometime within the next week, depending on how fast the clones will grow. I just don't think that the 150 watt is cutting it anymore and it would be beneficial just to throw in the 1000 watter. But when that happens we are going to have to deal with the heat from it which is a little intimidating because the only reason the tents stay cool right now is the fact that it is winter and 50 degrees outside so it keeps the room nice and cool. I do not know if it will have the same effect when the 1000 watter goes in, but were just going to have to try.
IMAG0063.jpg IMAG0065.jpg IMAG0066.jpg

Here is the best looking clone in my opinion,
IMAG0064.jpg

Hooked up the 1000 watter 2 days ago:lol: It has definitely had an impact on the temps in the entire room. We had to do some trial and error with the ducting in and out of the room. The temps are now usually between 84 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and still drop to 63 at night.
Plants are definitely growing nice though
IMAG0067.jpg

All of the plants are
IMAG0068.jpg

Happy growing everyone:weed:

It is the end of day 21 in the grow room, 3 weeks down all ready. It passed by pretty quickly:eyesmoke: lol. We got the temps in the room down to around 79 to 81, which is a little better than before but still not what we want. We are investing in an air conditioner for the room and were gonna plywood up the window and stick the ducting and the AC out the window. Hopefully that will keep it a nice 72 degrees Fahrenheit in here always, that would be sick. Will be setting that up in a couple of weeks. For now the temps are gonna stay a bit high and the plants are definitely feeling the heat but its nothing they cant handle.
The vegging plants in the 400 watt tent are showing some potential with those fat leaves lol:weed: I topped them all two days ago to give the secondary shoots some time to catch up. Besides the little bit of heat stress there doing pretty good.
IMAG0070.jpg IMAG0071.jpg IMAG0072.jpg IMAG0073.jpg IMAG0074.jpg
I can see the obvious signs that I may have 2 different strains. The 2 larger ones on the right side of the tent may be another strain then the 3 others who have all been growing some strange leaves from the beginning. I don't know if you can see it in the pics but the leaves are different shades of green on every leaf that has grown on them, I have never seen it before. But they are all growing at the same pace without any problems so I do not know what to make of it. Maybe they need cal/mag? If anyone can shine some light on the situation that would be cool.
Here is the whole tent again:hump:
IMAG0075.jpg
I topped them all right after there 6th set of nodes with cool 9 bladed leaves.

The other tent is feeling the same bit of heat stress but is doing just as well, no other issues. First time using the Fox Farms Ocean Forest potting soil and we have really liked it, no issues with nutrients or PH or saturation. Were thinking of doing a mix of Ocean Forest, Happy Frog, and perlite for the next grow to see how that goes.
Clones are growing pretty efficiently in my opinion. But let me get some other opinions what do you guys think?
IMAG0076.jpg IMAG0077.jpg IMAG0078.jpg
Its 3 Purple Kush, one White Chronic, and one AK-47. I am not sure what is in the solo cups tho lol both Purple Kush I think, they just took root the other day.
IMAG0079.jpg
What do you all think? All comments, questions, or tips are welcome. Happy Growing:bigjoint:

It is a couple hours after the beginning of day 29 in veg and the 400 watt tent has come a long way since last week. Most of the plants secondary branches have come up and they are all starting to look like little bushes. The tallest one is over a foot tall now, so since I have very little space to grow them all in my 5x3x3 tent I am going to give them another day to veg and then day 31 will be the first day of 12/12. I just got finished with flushing the soil in each pot out with a bit of spring water and sprinkled a small amount of Dr. Earths Bud Booster organic nutrient mix on top followed by a cover layer of soil and then watered through. They seemed to love it:weed:
IMAG0094.jpg IMAG0096.jpg IMAG0097.jpg IMAG0098.jpg IMAG0100.jpg

Temps and humidity have been decent and were expecting the air conditioner to arrive within the next week or two to improve upon that. It just all comes down to if they are gonna be female or male.... I have had really good luck so far with all the seeds I have planted in all my grows in the past. Never really knowing what I am gonna get out of them. 100 percent success rate can you believe that? lol. But will see I guess. I do see a couple growths on the small plant in the one gallon pot and one other one that kind of look like balls but it is to small for me to tell.
Anyway loving the way they all look:bigjoint:

The other plants in the 1000 watt tent are recovering from there transplant into bigger pots.
IMAG0101.jpg

A couple are showing signs of stress but they should pull through. But the sativa has weird orange spots on a couple leaves so next watering they are going to be flushed just in case it has something to do with PH. Most of them are looking strong and healthy:weed:

This is the final product of the Chernobyl plants. Probably one of the best strains I will ever grow. Only one of the four plants that I had vegging turned out to be female, which was a real bummer. After I had tossed the males I waited until the end of flower to post another update, just to make sure it was even worth it lol. I got a little over 3 oz off of that one finished Chernobyl plant. This five gram nug is part of one of the top budz:leaf:
IMAG0136.jpg IMAG0135.jpg IMAG0133.jpg IMAG0130.jpg

I also put a purple kush clone into my 400 watt tent after I discarded the males. That went straight into flower and was only 2 or 3 weeks behind the Chernobyl. It has about another week or 2 before harvest:weed:. Its a decent size plant and is doing very well... except for the mites or whatever kind of little black bugs are underneath the leaves. I cut a lot of the leaves off and cleaned out the tent just to make me feel a little bit better. But I am just gonna wait the week out before I chop it, no big deal.
IMAG0143.jpg IMAG0144.jpg IMAG0145.jpg
The first pic is the Purple Kush. The second pic is an AK47 that I just transplanted into that 4 gallon pot and stuck it in my tent today. The third pic is a seed that sprouted about 3 days ago, I am hoping it is another Chernobyl but will see.
Everything is still currently on a 12/12 cycle under a 400 watt hps, except for the seedling which is on a 24/0 cycle under a 23 watt 6500k CFL.
