When have I ever suggested skipping a trial?

I can't wait to see this little piggy earn himself a death sentence!
The only death sentence would be carried out by another prisoner. The cop will get manslaughter or 2nd degree murder unless somehow they can prove that he planned to go out and kill a kid that day.

I am guessing he does 15 - 20 years due to the aggravated nature of the killing and the fact that he was a cop.

Penalties and Sentences
Illinois second degree murder laws charge the offense as a Class 1 felony. This carries a sentence of between four and twenty years in prison. Depending on the leniency of the judge and the circumstances of the crime, a four-year probation term instead of prison may be an option. The maximum fine is $25,000 plus a surcharge of $3,125. Upon release from prison, there is a mandatory two year parole period.

I wonder if the same would apply if the kid shot back and killed the cop instead?

First degree murder requires premeditation. I would hope that it applied the same way but shooting a cop is a harsher sentence because it is a cop. I dont really have a problem with that because we dont want our police shot.

Out of the last 5 or so shootings of kids by cops this is the first one I can remember where the facts pointed to the cop being totally out of line. He is being prosecuted and charged with murder. Yet, instead of celebrating a proper execution of JUSTICE, the protesters are attacking the financial well being of their own communities and threatening innocent civilians. Their actions are likely to thwart any sort of goal that they might have.

The fuck shooting by cops on KIDS is IN FUCKING LINE? WTF?

KIDS. Children, you understand that shit, right? You think shootings of kids by cops are "in line"? Are you that fuckin' terrified of KIDS that you think cops murdering them is "in line"? Are you fuckin' nuts?

Yes, we have been over this. When a cops life is threatened like by that cigar stealing thug and he kills the THUG, whether it is a kid or not it is IN LINE with the law.

What exactly do the protestors want? Do they even know? The cop is being charged with murder. The DA pointed out that on average, a police shooting takes 16-20 months to process. So what is it exactly they want?
Now ask yourself WHY it takes 16-20 months to "process".

Each state legislature has their own interpretation of what constitutes murder 1,2,3 and manslaughter.

In most states the difference between murder 1 and 2 is in the sentencing. Murder 3 is in fact akin to manslaughter 1 (depraved indifference to life) then there is man 2 voluntary and man 3 involuntary murder, but in the state of Illinois (where the law differs) this officer CAN be convicted of murder 1.
