Is it necessary to check Ppms? I just got an apera 60 ph pen and was wondering if I should get a ppm meter also

Well, it's gonna depend. How do you plan on feeding? Is it a water only, and using dry amendments?
Fox farm trio once it needs to be fed because I know FFOF has enough nutes in it to feed them for awhile. I also got cal mag Idk if ill need it. My tap water is like 7.9ph so i kinda figured I need to being that down to like 6.2 or so.

Yea the ff trio, is bottled nutes. You'll need the ph meter and the ec meter.

The FFOF soil should have enough nutes in it for 2-4 weeks. In soil, EC is not usually an issue, but you'll want to PH your nute/calmag solution to about 6.2 before watering. Add the calmag first, mix and let sit about 15 minutes, then add your nutes, mix and wait a few more minutes, then PH the solution and water. Use cycles of feed-water-feed, letting the media dry back before watering again. Know that it's possible you may have to do a flush about the time you flip, the FF nutes are chelated and the salts will build up and can cause absorbtion issues. The flush should be 3X the volume of the pot, tap water is fine. Once it dries back fro the flush go back to feeding normally.

I run this exact setup except my tap water is so bad I use either rain or RO water. I also use recharge and recommend using some kind of beneficial bacteria if using straight ocean forest. The best results I've seen with Fox Farm is starting the seedling in happy frog, then transplanting into Ocean Forest or if running auto fill the bottom half with Ocean Forest, top part with Happy Frog, when the plant gets a little bigger then top dressed with Oceans Forest. I also recommend using very little or no cal mag at all since Oceans Forest has a decent amount of calcium and your tap water will provide everything else. I have done this myself lol and if you look around the forum here you'll see lots of people have done this. The stuff works great together and is fairly forgiving to work with. Have fun and I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to see some sweet pics of weed!
