Check Out This Info I Found About Not Flushing, That's Right, Not Flushing

Well maybe, I always thought that flushing was when ya leach the soil with 2 times the volume of water. Using plain water still allows the plant to use the nutrients in the soil. As in uses em all up. Flushing is when ya flush all nutes out of the soil. Thats what i thought anyways
That's what it really is but when hydro growers talk about flushing they can either mean flushing salts out of medium like rock-wool bricks, or not giving their plants food at the end of the grow and most of them don't recognize the difference to begin with so they run around saying "I flush I flush" and before you know it you know it people actually think peanuts are nuts. It's crazy if you ask me.

great great post m8.. the only time i flush is when i drop a deuce, and think that flushing your plants does more harm then good, and its great to get a lil scientific evidence to back up my no flushing..
i never understood the reasoning behind flushing to begin with, and always thought that it was one of those wifes tales that has gotten passed down from uninformed grower to uninformed grower year after year...
i dont know if flushing makes buds taste better, but flushing is essential. either that or dispose of every batch of soil after 1 grow. flushing gets rid of any salt buildups in the medium. it is important to flush your soil medium atleast after every grow so your working with a nice clean medium.

flushing is also good at keeping ph in check in my opinion. ph tends to fall over time with the use of fertilizer. so when you flush with alot of 7ph water it brings the ph back up a bit.

flushing as a general term is vague. more often than not, to hydro peeps it means to starve your plants and admire it slowly dying, thinking its going to boost the flavor.

soil growers use the term to describe leeching too much salts from the containers.

flushing has its place, its just been misplaced.

i taught japanfreakier everything he knows, so, any gratitude or appreciation for his answers honestly belongs to me... if you could direct your praise this way, kudos.

lol, jk japan ;)

To those of you that are flushing and think it makes em better,,,,you may be right but for the wrong reasons???

It is a proven fact that drowning them at the end improves taste because the plant (all plants) will actually start the fermintation process turning sugars to alcohol in an attempt to survive "the flood" which can occur naturally in mother nature (why plants are wired to do this.

I suspect that those getting better taste from flushing are actually keep the root zone wet and not allowing it to dry out thus drowning them, as it take about 12 days under a light for the fermentaion process to occur?

There is a better way, those of us that follow this technique feed till the end then drown them, leave lights on for a day to moblize the water (which only takes a few hours) then lights out for 3 to 4 days, with out the lights the plant can't transpire the water and it drowns faster once this process starts in the living plant it will continue after the chop (harvest)

There is always a bit of truth in the myths if you look for it

This doesn't happen if you first give about 1/3 of their irrigation, wait 20 minutes and come back, then give the rest of their water until you achieve runoff. NO DRY POCKETS.

also helps to add one drop pergallon of Ivory (or palmalive) dish soap, which keeps dry pockets from happenin

Another thing I noticed in all of the flushing threads is that many of the people who are STRONG advocates of flushing always throw a shout out to some product. Whether it's some late bloom additive or flushing agent. I tend to only believe posts that are backed up by actual sources, not some 19 year old stoners who know how to make a website or threads that dont advertise (completely unbias).
I understand and share you concern for having information be slanted with advertising.

To be fair though, I often include the name and manufacturer of the product I'm using, need help with, or have questions about, when I post, because I feel it helps speed things along and get everyone of the same page, which increases efficiency of info transfer. A lot of things are bullshit, but it's still better to know which bullshit it is, even so. I don't mind specifics/advertising in posts as long as they are honest and unaffiliated with selling the thing they are talking about. Posts representing themselves as if they were not connected to selling a product which they actually are connected to selling, now that is no bueno. But if someone found something, and used it and tested it and has insight on why it's great, and it might help me greatly, then please advertise away, success should be contagious.

Wouldn't you rather know whether my cheapo duct booster fan from home depot broke and caused and electrical fire or whether my 10 year warrantied Vortex centrifugal fan broke and was the culprit? One could be more expected, the other could seem to be more strange. Or whether I am using canna coco fiber and had fungus gnats come in with the coco, or whether I used botanicare coco fiber and it leeched more calcium and magnesium than I am used to? Both these situations are fictional to serve as examples.

aaand back on topic, I have flushed all 3 times I have harvested, because at the time that was my understanding of the best course of action. I now am interested in trying to feed up until I drown my plants for a pre-fermentation cure. Much thanks to riddleme the leperchaun
