Cheap tents dangerous??

I was talking to my hydro shop and I'm trying to figure our if the guys just trying to get more of my money or help me out... He told me not to purchase cheaper grow tents off the net. The reasoning is they release fumes when heated by the light that kills or stunts the plants. Is there any truth to this or am I just being fed BS by someone who wants my money?

I'm looking at a 3'x3'x6.5' for $80. They want to sell me a 2'x3'x5' for $130 +tax, but its a secret Jardin tent.

He was right. The cheaper grow box has light leaks, and the material of the tent is thinner. So even if you have carbon filter, it could still smell. I bought the expensive tent, that was the good choice so you should do the same

He wants more money. I know several people using tents they paid 100 bucks for and they are working fabulously.

You get what you pay for with tents. Off gas or not.. you will get cheap zippers that wont last long and many light leaks. Even nice tents have light leaks, but shitty tents have shitty amounts of light leaks. Secret Jardin are expensive, but hunt down a good deal and they are worth it.

I went with a tent on a recent grow, a Secret Jardin. It worked well, but I am not a fan of tents, unless it made the most sense for the situation. Previously I have always framed out my rooms and used Panda Plastic. I like doing that, because if you have any extra room, it can be used. I like to use all the space I can to help with airflow. The more airflow, the less you have to worry about temps. When I moved to a tent, I immediately realized that my temps went up 3-4 degrees. So, on this last run I had to open the tent doors every light cycle to get better air flow and circulation. In all, it worked out well, but I would just build my own tent/ room going forward.

some of the cheaper tents are great quality, but make sure you buy one that has a zip that looks like a backwards C.if you get one with a T shape zip you'll quickly see they let in light.

I love my Secret Jardin but I have bought cheap Avanti's for my last couple tents.

Edit: That 1.5' top space that could really come in handy!
