eh up.... cheap effective and WORKS is an onion... onions are a natural odour absorber... also the candle gig but thats a tad dangerous in a grow situation... candles are an old painters and decorators gig.. they would paint a room out then light a candle in the middle of the room and it simply burnt off da fumes... onions work mucker... have done it meself.... works a treat.. just peel it and slice it and away you go bro.

i found this indoor lint trap at home depot for $14. it holds a couple quarts of water and is designed for a 4" vent. i may try it with the pinesol mix and also with the ONA gel.

Here is my cheapy smell masker.
I took a gallon milk jug, filled up 3/4th with water. Then add scented oils, or warming oil, or the liquid from a scented plug-in. Then run a tube from an aquarium bubbller in it, no air stone, tube straight in. Works great.

I recently started my first indoor grow. The first priority for me in my attempt to grow my own weed is to not get caught, since it's illegal to grow cannabis where I live. I use an air scrubber carbon air filter that is pretty good at cleaning the air, but not perfect. Sometimes you get a whiff of the smell of the pot growing even when the fan and filter are running. That is especially true when I am working on my plants and my room is open, so after my plants got to be about 3 weeks old, I realized I had to do something about eliminating the smell and along with it, any chances my neighbors might be down wind of it and get suspicious.

I was somewhat panicked... OK, I was freaking out!! My plants were doing great and I wanted to keep my grow going, but I knew if I didn't fix the smell problem, it was over, so I asked for help from the folks watching my grow journal on RIU. Danielsgb, a friend and fellow grower responded with some pictures he had found from another grower who is not identified, but is also owed a thank you from me. Whomever you are. Thank you. You can see the pics of the device he used here. https://www.rollitup.org/attachments/grow-journals/1506486d1300724787-smoke-n-strums-first-indoor-odor-bucket-001.jpg

I had to do something fast, because the smell was bad and I wanted to salvage the grow. I didn't have a can fan, and I couldn't get one quickly enough, so I tried to think of what I could do. I had an old outdated computer in my garage and I knew it had fans in it, so I took it apart and salvaged the fans. The following is my adaption of the idea Danielsgb gave me. I had to buy an aquarium air pump and air stone. The rest I already had.

A picture is worth a thousand words, so here it is. This what I needed to put it all together. You can use pine sol or whatever you have that works. Pine sol works great and it is cheap.

To wire the fans you need a 12 volt inverter that puts out about .3 amps. Close is good enough. When you hook the wires up, red goes to the wire with the slashes on it. Don't worry, if you hook it up to the wrong wire. It won't hurt anything, it just won't work. Just change it back and be sure to test it before you put it all together. The rest is pretty self explanatory I think. If you have any questions, ask. I hope this helps someone keep their grow on...sns:leaf:

One fan blows into the bucket, one blows out. This thing works great. I put two capfuls of pine sol into about 6 inches of water in the bottom of the bucket. Pine sol foams a little, so don't fill it up too high. A little pine sol goes a long way. Use your own judgement. Good luck.

Like that, I just found that site with startpage ( i dont use google if i can help it). You probably know someone in your area that sells those things, its the new Avon. Any way, I have a tiny crockpot used for melting cheese or whatever. I plugged it in about 10 min ago, and put a block of wax in it. Its only a 35 watt crockpot so i figure it wont cost much to run it. I can already smell the blueberry cheesecake. I would be very surprised if it wouldnt overpower even the dankest of bud.

I often wonder about the plants picking up the scent of something like that, is there any evidence to show you could contaminate the bud with a off smell or flavor from doing something like this?

wow, I haven't logged on here in a long time.i was just finding this link to show it to a friend. I used this in the area of the house where my grow is. It just smells like someone just cleaned with pinesol, and since pot kind of smells like pine, it confuses your smeller.. lol After using it, I think next time I need it, I'll use ona products. I'll compare. Nothing is perfect, but this is instant. You turn it on and the smell of the weed is masked immediately. Again, not perfect, but good.

I didn't notice any affect on my weed. Come on, it's a household cleaner used by millions daily. Of course it will kill you.

I can't believe people are getting use out of this, that's great.

That's a great adaption. The idea being use what you have.

thanks man rep for this thread it made me lesst paranoid after i came up with th air fresh n er
Thank you, for the rep, coming back at you for using this thread. Funny thing, I had to put mine back into service today. I got a brief whiff of dank outside my house, so I hooked it back up and voila, I'm golden again. This thing is not fool proof, but it helps a lot. I bought some ona gel and plan to try that in there to see if i can get that neutral smell. Also, pine sol foams a little and I want to try and tweak that a bit. I'll let you know how that goes.

While I def love this idea for a filter, being a computer nerd myself, im just curious as to any dangers of having pinesol in the atmosphere. While i have cats, im not concerned about them as they are not allowed near the grow room, but im curious as to the chemicals effects on the plants? Im gonna get the bucket setup, but curious as to a more organic or at least safer option to mix with H2O to cover the smell.
