Cheap Organic base soil for super soil mix

Hey guys well i'm getting prepared for next years outdoor season and I'm going to be making my first batch of super soil, besides the roots organic cause it is kind of exspensive whats a good organic soil I can use that's similar?

Best advice would be to start with a majority cut with sphagnum peat moss or coco and amend yourself.

A guy like @hyroot (someone who knows amendments and applications in and out) should be able to lend an assist here.


I'm knowledgable and understand living soils, but not as in depth as he does.

peatmoss, coco, pumice, 30% vermicompost for your base. Then add what ever nutes you want than cook. I guess.

you should start your a worm bin too. Make your own high quality (better than store bought) vermicompost (castings & compost). That's the cornerstone of living organics. Well and reusing soil.

I don't know where you're located but I'm lucky to live close to KIS (Keep It Simple) Organics. They are not a huge company but they do amazing stuff with organics here in the state of WA. Like everyone else says buying soil and amending it is an option and you can find plenty of recipes, however, KIS offers a nutrient pack for making super soil. They also sell super soil but shipping would be insane and not worth it. I'm on the end of my 2nd super soil grow. I even re-used the soil from my first grow with barely any extra amendments.

All you do is add the nutrient pack to peat moss, EWC, and water then wait a couple weeks for it to cook. They claim it should last a plant from seedling to harvest. They claim you it lasts 6 months and so far its looking like it. I think looking into them would be worth your while

Im leaning towards getting a local top soil (peat/maybecoco/pumice/compost) and amending myself. Like $40-60 a yd. Id rather have 200 gallon of good dirt, than a 100 gallons of excellent dirt. But ima do Brew's too.
