CFLs more hype than value for lighting your home

This is a pretty sweet review of CFLs i found and this is in regard to lighting your home, not growing obviously. It just addresses the massive misunderstand or hype of CFLS. Everybody reads they save you $ so they dont actually think about it. CFLs are just a huge marketing scheme to make people think they are saving money, but if your in the USA, they are actually way more expensive because our tax dollars were used to push them on people, and make them cheaper at the store.. billions in tax dollars that is. Basically what i got from it is, always use incandescent if you turn lights off all the time anyways in your home, only use CFLS for places where the light bulbs are going to be on for endless hours. CFLS burn out 10x faster if your always turning them on and off, much like i do in my house just because i never leave lights on that arnt being used.. i see it as a waste of energy. Anyways i though somebody might appreciate actually learning something so thats why i shared it with RIU ; )

Got ya. I use LED bulbs where my lights are on all the time. Or - if the lights are on for a majority of the day. I use incandescent for the lights I don't use so much. CFLs have some mercury in them so I don't like to use them. And they seem to flicker at start-up or come on slowly. That said - I hate the heat an incandescent bulb gives off - way too hot. You can burn your hand on those puppies almost right after they've been turned on.

From my experience with them, I'm sure technically they work for 8+ years but physically built they are junk and the cheap ones will die in 2-3 years. The base of the bulb gets all yellowish and I think they leak and die. For sure its a scheme!

It's only a 'scheme' if you're paranoid and losing your marbles. Otherwise - it's just a different type of light fixture that no one gives a flip about either way.

Im going to need to see facts and preferably 5 or so credible sources to validate them.

im not paranoid im only sharing some info with people that i found. and also, its a fact that the government uses billions of US tax dollars (our money) to make CFLs more affordable on the store shelf, they give the money to the manufacturers who in return reduce the price for you. Its a fact, i dont have sources nor do i care but go ahead and google it im sure you'll find something. Its a win win for them a lose lose for us. im not trying to prove anything, just sharing this so interpret it how you want to.

Find them yourself, when did i ever say i was trying to prove anything or convince anyone? I was simply sharing my findings and doing a brief summary of the article for people

The govt also wants you to use a flat screen TV too.
I hate em, they have no depth and narrow viewing field.

I woulda been shocked had you provided the article you read let alone multiple sources. This site is full of outlandish claims and people with nothing to prove.
