there is so many cfl options
and i thought i knew it
but theres so many different things that peeple say
i need to kno exact lights for veg. and flowering.
all the diff things i keep reading arre pissing me off

the correct answer is


6500k - BLUE specturm (anything 5300 or higher is good really) for VEG stage

2700-3500- RED spectrum for the Flowering stage

now. if your using CFL's or Fluro Tubes, I recomending having a 1/3 fraction of your light being the wrong spectrum for the phase.

IE being You have 6 CFL 26 w bulbs, u would use 4 6500k and 2 2700k lights for VEG and the oppisite for flowering.....

plants love multiple spectrums


( true story , it doesnt "matter " which you use they will grow reguardless under the lights...)

this is just BEST spectrums for the time...bigger denser ........FASTER plants (sometimes lots faster )

would running a signal type bulb like this work through all stages of growth was thinking of 3 of these bulbs Thank you any input would be helpful :fire:

Also could I just use this bulb from seedling to flowering > without changeing spectrum in different cycles Full Spectrum Daylight 6500K:weed:

You may want to consider getting a T8 tube fluoro hood, and getting GE Gro Lux(not the wide spectrum aka WS, just the regular Gro Lux or Plant/Aquarium aka PL/AQ bulbs) 40 watt tubes. T12 comes in higher wattage.. they're not nearly as efficient though.

Much more efficient than CFLs, and probably cheaper.

CFLs you want 6500k Daylight labeled for veg. 2700k Warm White labeled for flowering. PL/AQ bulbs do both of these(6500k/2700k) spectrums just as intensely, in one bulb. The major difference is a lacking of green light(less wasted energy!). The light from PL/AQ bulbs is pink/magenta in hue. The wide spectrum bulbs have more green, and appear more white than pink. There's not a major difference, either works great.

The shifting of the spectrum from 6500 to 2700 would ideally mimic the changing of the seasons. In the spring sunlight is much more on the blue side and that's when natural outdoor veg takes place. As the summer progresses sunlight shifts more to red. In late summer at harvest time the sun is heavily red.

I guess if we really wanted to do it right we would go from maybe 90% blue and 10% red, gradually to 50/50 and then the other way. Most of us get by with 70/30 and then 30/70.

5500-6700 k bright white for veg
2700 k warm white for flower
you want more red spectrum for flowering and more blue for veg i believe

Spectrum of your light doesnt stop your plant from flowering or growing in veg


i cant count how many growers i have met that only use red spectrum from start to finish ( this being said blue and red both would work from seed to flowering)

so yes one bulb color can easily do the job

3500 lum's per sq foot is enough to susstain growth...but the goal isnt to sustain its to make your bitch grow


CFL's don't give out the exact lumens they say on the box. take 500 away from it. ( this counts for the loss of light per inch away from your canopy)

3 42 wats could grow 3 plants to 1 foot i'd go for 6 once they get any bigger then that though


aim for 8500+ lums per foot and your more then good...

aim for 12500+ lums per foot and your more then set


the sun puts out 18500 on a sunny summer day i think....I THINK i don t need nazi's bitching at me for being wrong but please post the right answer if you know

im not bitching or being a nazi but the sun is 10000 per sq foot on a sunny summer day. also you are right, you do need to take away from the amount of lumens due to the distance they are from your plants as well as whether they are hung upside down as opposed to being right side up, about 10% less lumens when they are upside down (no idea why) also if you get a decent reflector hood it will DRASTICALLY help direct your light onto your plants. you can get really good t5 high output tubes to place vertically to side light your plants and this can increase your yield quite a bit too... cfls should also be hung horizontally if possible as they will give you better output that direction due to more surface area of th light being directed at your plants
