so so so wassgooood RUI?
heres my ask : who's got the upper hand when it comes to lightbulbs?

yeah i know all yall be screamin "HPS!" yeah yeah but what if the light bulbs has the same level of wattage? lets say both have 1000 W

WHY is HPS King Kong? talkin bout lumens...i think they equall! (just sayin that cause im a CFL dude myself, and hope it to be true)
CFl dont burn down yo house
CFL dont need no Ballast
CFL dont need no cooltube
CFL dont raise your bill to the roof

so tell me WHY so i can comprehend and overstand why i should switch

c'mon, tell a brother the truth now. im thinking bout gettin a 250 HPS BUT i allready got a 125 CFL with a couple of companions. together they put out about 250 W

SO would i be a fool not to use the HPS? oh and how long does the HPS burn? i think CFL's suck on that department.

P.S sorry if my English is off. ima a highschool dropout...:(

Lumens. They make the plant go. IMO HPS has a shit poor color frequency and doesn't appear like sunlight at all. I just picked up a 30 watt LED chip, poor lumens, but no heat, and much better than any flourescent bulb. If you do CFL, be prepared for buying lots of them, and removing their heat. try to get around 500 watts of CFL for a bomb grow

so its that much of a difference huh? damn you lumeeeens! aight so i need to be gettin me some HPS lighting ... damn!
anyone got the numbers a HPS spit out versus the CFL ? per watt or something i dont know. its hard to compare when HPS and CFL's dont come in the same size....

a HPS gives more lumens per watt of powr i use both and neither of them are cooler than the other, 400w of CFL is still hotter then fuckall. \
i think the numbers are as follows

50-70 lumen per wat for flouros, all depends on wich kind you get.

and its like 110 lumens (might be more) per watt for the HPS so you do in fact get more bang for your buck (as far as your electric bill goes) with the HPS.

right now i vegg under CFL and i flower under a 400w HPS, both work great and i would not go out and get another hood, ballast to run a MH light for vegg. i already have CFL setup that works.

oh and a HID lamp is not all that much more expensive than CFL. if you plan on mathing lumens and not watts the CFL will cost about the same. the only thing that is good is that you can buy a couple bulbs at a time with the CFL thus making the upfront cost easier to manage if your on a weekly budget.

i wold recoment a HID system if you have the space and money.

if your on a budget and want to get started i would recomend some CFL to get them seedling going and upgrade along the way. i guess it all depends on how and where your growing and what you got in your wallet right now.

150 watt MH makes 15000 Lums, i think HPS 150 does 20000. 150 watt CFL can do 6000 lumens... CFLs are hot and farty for 1/2 the lumen power

CFL's do get hot and can be a potential fire hazard as well. safety first and dont try sticking 600w worth of CFL in a cardboard box, just as you wouldnt put a 600W HID lamp in a cardboard box

400w of lights running for 1 hour cost the same it dosent matter if your using HPS, MH , CFL, halogen or incandecents. or running a 400w microwave.....400w is 400w

ok you have convinced me. time to retire them old cfl's. or maybe just use em for veg. numbers dont lie.
thing is my buddy is movin and asked me if i wanted to buy his 250 HPS with ballast and cooler. at first i was thinking "nah i allready got that wattage goin with my lights"
but then i saw heard about the yeild he was gettin....thought it was because of the super nutes and smartpots he was using. guess not

thanks for the replys guys. plus rep to all

I agree in this example circumstance. Say somebody started flowering a 600 w HPS and decided to throw in a couple of 150 CFLS for blue...
yeah i may end up adding them 2700k 105W bulbs in that hood to my flower cab, after all thats the most important time to have the best light you can give

yeild is dependant on alot of things not just the light u use.

your grow conditions and veg time are the 2 big factors in yeild
also dont forget propper PH so you dont have lockouts and the correct amount of nutrients. you can yeild a good harvest of CFL alone

true that. fact is, i got 50 grams from one plant my first grow. with CFL's. now im lucky to get an ounce out. think the bulb is gettin weaker and weaker by the minute

250 watts of cfl will run hotter than 250 watts of hps. The loss of lumens in cfl is transferred to heat energy.

lumens are a human-subjective measurement; how bright it "looks." plants don't have eyes. how close can you get an MH?
