CFL Veg, HPS flower????

I want to start a perpetual harvest setting with 2 chambers,
and i already have one cabinet built with about 500Watts of cfl lighting.. but i was thinking of investing in a 400-600 watt hps bulb for the next chamber i want to build...

i can't have a HID bulb in the veg chamber because of space concerns, i have had good results growing in the cfl chamber anyway.

my reasoning is that maybe i can propagate and veg a batch in the cfl chamber, grow them to be about 30 inches tall and then move them to the 600 watt hps flowering chamber........

would that work ok? i think that the bigger bulb is far more useful during flowering?

what do you guys think?

Marijuana Can veg adequately with a relatively small amount of light, its in flower that lots of light becomes very important. So yes your logic is sound, and that is a great plan. But I wouldn't veg them to 30 inches, of course this is going to depend on strain, but if its not mostly indica your going to be dealing with a lot of stretch most likely and since you said space is an issue i would suggest only vegging to about 12 inches then flipping, of course that's ultimately up to you to recognize what works best.

thank you VERY much for your feedback!

in the veg chamber I'm limited to a max height of 31 inches but in th flower chamber i could grow them to be up to 5 ft? but that may be way to tall....... maybe 12in and flipping is a better idea!..

Sounds like an excellent combo.I would suggest a digital dimmable ballast for more versatility for your setup.
I agree. One question, if you don't mind: I need to change my ballast and have been researching digital dimmable ballasts, do you know if the input wattage stays the same when dimming down or if it goes down to match the lower output? for example: a 600w ballast seems to have an input of 620w at 600w but if you dim it down to 400w will it still consume 620w of power? I hope it's understandable :D Thanks
