CFL Question.....

ok I have a 2 square foot dresser grow that im going to be doing a few sog plants in...i was wondering if 4-42 watt (2700k) and 4-23 watt (1600k) would work for just flowering and also how many sog plants do you think i can fit in this space with these lights?

For that size, some CFLs may not be a bad idea. They don't put off nearly as much heat. I would however, consider going with a few T-5 lights. Most setups are pretty flexible...i.e. you can chain the tubes and arrange as you see fit. I do discourage CFL flowering.

I've done it, and then HPS. The potency just does not get where it needs to be with the CFLs. They will flower, they will be pretty and lacking seeds...but not as potent. Even if you get a pair of small HPS flood lights (70W) or so, the plants will react differently. Best of luck, and don't be suprised if you find an overwhelming urge to get more area. cheers

cfl bud is not less potent, thats not true at all really. or i just get really lucky, lol,

Buds are not less potent if you have enough light.
If you get a 30w HPS or a 40 watt cfl, i would get the CFL. Reason being that, even if HPS is used by most growers, wattage is the most important. If you can double the wattage with CFL's then do that.

lumens are the biggest most important part, not wattage. 400w of hps and 400w of cfls are not the same, the hps puts out more lumens per watt than the cfls

my grow area is 2 square feet and 3.5 inches tall (old dresser).....this is just like a project type thing....i wanted to see how good i can grow in a 2 square foot area with cfls....I already have a room with an mh & hps lighting but wanted to try cfls.....so im trying to figure out if 4-42 watt & 4-23 watt cfls would work for this 2 square foot area....But not for full size plants....just for the SOG method.......

you might have a hard time keeping temps down and finding enough area to hang all the lights w/o burning the plant or being too close, but with lots of airflow and lst it can be done. i fit 20 42w in a 4 sq foot scrog cabinet and let me say -it was a pain. but at least the yeild was good and potent. lol
