Hey guys! my veg area is a 4x4 tent and im currently using a 400w HPS to cover it. i cant reaqlly afford to throw in more lights but i would like a better spectra then the HPS gives..
Would i be able to cover this area efficiently using 400w of cfl insted of HPS or would i not get enough lumens ?? Thanks for your time :)

get ready for some leggy plants my friend but use the 400w hps. I can take a few pics for you so u can see the difference in my plants that vegged under mh vs hps?

You can buy a 400w MH for 28 bucks at home depot. You will end up spending more trying to rig cfl's.

i already have all the CFL i need. what i need to know is if it would benfit my grow area if i replaced my 400w HPS with 400w of cfl lights. would a 400w MH cover a 4x4 area efficiently?

Just add the cfls in with the hps, then you will cover the whole light spectrum range.

Heck for under $150 you can buy a Lumatek LK400 ballast and a 400w MH and HPS bulbs...just need a reflector if you want one...pretty darn inexpensive. I saw the Lumatek for $113 and you can choose your bulbs anywhere. Then you can use the MH for veg and the HPS for flower...either way MH or HPS for veg...you can't go wrong.
