Could someone advise me on how many cfls id need for 5 plants?

Would depend on the wattage and lumens of the CFL/s you are going to use. Size of grow space etc.

A shit load. It's all about lighting.

A good (8-10) 23-26 watt warm white cfls per plant during flower. Use cfls double the size so you only use half the amount of cfls. I would say your best bet for five plants, while using cfls, would be to top and scrog them to keep the canopy of all plants at the same height. You'll be able to use your cfl lumens more efficiently this way and may be able to get away with fewer cfls. Good luck!

5000 lumens per sq foot, however many bulbs you need to get there. Depeneds on your grow space size
