i grew once before a while back. super simple soil (white widow) grow with a 100watt blue spectrum cfl. Didnt really care much about super controlled environment, ie no timer, small closet had light leak, irregular watering etc, anyway, it still budded up rather well and harvested about 3/4oz of very airy loose buds. it looked kinda shitty, tall stretchy plant with buds spread out between its lanky branches. anywho, i tried drying as best as i could follow through online explanations and wow, although i knew i didnt follow basic guidelines that could have increased yeild or increased potency, the bud i did harvest was stronger than i could have ever expected. that was about 2 years ago, and i had the sudden urge to just grow again so here it is.

here is a simple supplies list, kinda out of order and im sure missing stuff, AANNDD my vague day count or week count, i kinda lost track =P i know i know....

+plastic colo cups
+2 liter bottles
+Perlite
shultz 10-15-10 liquid nutes (home depot)
+4-42 watt warm spectrum cfls (used half way throug veg and progressively added more, its easier to understand once you see the setup)
+2-27 blue spectrum cfls- used for seedlings and veg
+2-27 watt warm spectrum cfls(supplemental lighting)
+cheesy puffs container

started 2 Great white sharks and 1 og-jack in plastic cups in all perlite ... then the one gws that was growing like crazy was put in a 2 liter.

this pic : top middle GWS, left GWS, right og-jack...this was about 2 weeks in, and a few days after i pulled the og-jack cuz it was just plain dead, i duno if it was just cuz it didnt like it indoors or the ferts i was giving it, or anything really.

...
...
... this was at about week 3. I moved the other GWS into a 2 liter. growth speeding up on both plants.
...also week 3...
...this was at week 4 this is the smaller of the 2
...compared to my last grow, which was soil, this hempy technique shows sooo much more growth than soil, it really surprised me how well these plants took off.
...my grow is kinda compact so i decided to start lst'ing the bigger one. This was done in the morning, about 2 hours into 18hr light cycle
...
...this pic is from the very next day at about mid-day
...
...this next picture was taken at same day as picture above
=( upon taking the picture above, i started looking closer at this smaller plant and i noticed male preflower things, little balls is what it looks like, and i didnt wanna risk seedy buds for the other which showed clear signs of a female. so i pulled it =/ ... In hindsight, i should have left the male to produce seeds upon now seeing how well the female has done thus far and looks like it has good genetics. =) ... i had a bit of luck and found that those big clear containers of cheese puffs had the same opening diameter as a 2 liter bottle so i cut the bottom of the 2 liter bottle very carefully and let the plant slipt through the now cylinder left of the 2 liter. the cheesy puff container has roughly 4 times the volume of that of the 2 liter so more room for roots the better right?
...this was about week 5
... few days later roughly day 35~
... hard to see whats really going on, super crowded, but great growth
... about day 42~
...top view of same day as above pic started up some more lst of all the branches you cant really see it here
...horrible blurry shot but you can kinda make out some white hairs in there
... this is about week 7 overall, started 12/12 lighting switched all bulbs on DIY ghetto fixture with 4 sockets all to the 42watt warm spectrum
... growth was ridiculous around this time, alittle before 12/12 and into the next 2 weeks during the stretch, you can kinda see how the branches are curved out from further lst'ing, i kept on lst'ing into the 3rd week of flowering, noticable strech in about 5 days ->
...
...
...early week 3 hairs are growing everywhere!
...
...you can see in this next pic how the top of the plant has grown vertically and laterally , notice the branch that follows up and the left of the picture
... these are all from the last week and a half ... hmm if i have it right it would be 4rth week of flowering
...
...
...good shot of the light setup with supplemental lighting
...this was taken 3 days ago with some daylight cfls on, the yellow light bugs me in the pics.
... the remaining pictures were taken today the beggining of week 5, this pic is of the bottom most area of the plant and litte popcorn buds, you can also see how the stem and bracnhes grew out and were ties down.
...
... busted out a plastic coat hanger and made some holes through the top edge of the cheese puffs container to specificly tied down the very top of the plant ... ... ...
...
... i wrapped the container with foil to try and keep the light out after noticing some algau up top and below... i still havnt gotten the algae at the very bottom of the container to go away, its sporadic along 2-3 inches of the bottom rim(no pic, sorry)
... a few close ups, as best as i could get them, no shots of the super fuzzy buds, the camera couldnt focus! damn point and shoot cameras!
...
...
you can seee some of the last large leaves is yellowing and dying, through the whole process ive pruned and tucked as much as possiblem without doing harm.
<br> i know pruning is a hot topic, but i felt that it was necessary in this grow considering my lighting and its lack of penetration, along with the lst it worked out rather well so far, ill add an update in a fwe days.

as for now the only issue i have the worrying the hell out of me is the tips of most leaves are browing and slightly curling and crispy to the touch... i dont know if this is from a deficiency or over fert.... from that last pic, can anyone help? only the tips are affected from what ive seen, the new growth nearest the buds show no signs of this but im afraid it will get there soon. i have tried flushing a 3 days ago with ample amounts of water, id say about a 1.5 gallons of water. today i used about 2/3 strength of the same 10-15-10 and i havnt seen any change....will this affect my buds? agh!?

i totally support cfl grows, but i now see that i need a stronger light, my yeild and plant density would be exponentially increased hith a mh/hps... bext time fore sure.

any comments, suggestions, answers to my yellowing leaf tips, or how to tid my container of algae at the bottom of the container.... all is welcome.
thanks for looking

Looking nice im not entirerly sure but i think the leaves naturally turn yellow because the plant is using all of its energy on the production of the bud. Just make prune all leaves that are dead or more than 50% yellow is what i would do.

yeah, ive pruned most of the yellowing leaves, they pull right off actually. the problem thats been worrying me now is almost ever leaf has brown tips, like crispy dying tips, and some have curled upwards.... this goes for all leaves, minus the very small leaves closest to the buds. i fed them water for 3 days straight (no nutes) i think it might have gotten worse... so i started the feeding back up a couple days ago with no noticeable difference. maybe because of the algae at the bottom of my res? UGH! hopefully it doesnt get worse over the night few weeks before i harvest.

Hey im having the same kind of problems you are i have a small og plant that is just showing signs of sex and the bottom leaves seem to be turning yellow brown and they turn into dust when handled. Could you upload some new pictures close up on the leaves. Also i believe that my plant is having heat stress because ive been giving it proper nutes and water.

Also id change or clean your res cause that might have some negative effects.
hey subzero, whats your method of growing? is it hempy?

I realized after it was too late that the way i was feeding my plants was leaving too many ferts behind in the res. even after several attempts at flushing with no success. next time i'm definitely doing water-feed-water-feed, or heavy feed-water-water-heavy feed-water-water. the burning tips was scaring the shit outta me, but it started so late that i had a great harvest.
