whould a rectangle fixture shape of cfl bulbs be better, or whould a square/circle shape? For lets say one plant.

whould a reg strain femd grown from seed plant flowered at 1 foot yeild higher than an auto strain?

Lastly what do you guys think of making a cab/box with the dementions of 2ft legnth, 2ft width, 4ft height? Should it be taller?

These are not my pictures just using them as examples of fixture shape.
Which shape of cfl fixture whould give better lighting? (not talking about the number, watt and kev. of bulbs)

#1, the light gives off better light from the side not the top and the cab sounds ok for one plant just get some in/out blowing fans:bigjoint:

I would go with the reflector squrare the shape of the box, so it keeps all the light down where the plant is an raise it up with a rope as the plant gets bigger. Also a glass shield will keep most of the heat above the bulb an u can put it very close.

2x2x4 is fine for one big plant , or less smaller ones, lots of vents an fans small boxes get hot with alot of bulbs.

I heard that autoflowers just start to flower about 2 weeks, so 12/12 from birth would be kinda equal to an autoflower.
But If you Lst an top a reqular plant it should yield more an be about the same height as an autoflower.
But it would take longer than the auto (extra month?), and you have to flower under 12\12 .

I have been thinking about this also cause right now i got an auto going to give me some quick smoke 1 week old, flowering some 1 month old 6in topped plants in a dark cooler next to my grow box. They should flower about the same time. Ill have to see who wins in weight.

taller depends on how tall you want it but 4 feet is ok remeber it still grows in flowering so count for that and no one can tell you what your yeild will be no matter what and with cfl for flowering you dont get as much as other lights like hps or mh

nice yeah get back to me on that weight!

yeah im tring to find the best yeilding and shortest time to grow one plant. so im not sure if i want to go with an auto or a trained/topped reg.

do reg. strains take around 3-4 months from seed to harvest?

I know autos take around 8-10 weeks.

what are your opinions on hempy bucket vs soil(foxfarm) as far as yeild goes?

Like i said only your plant can tell you your yield will be, ff soil is great you wont have to add nutes for atleast a month but hempy works great too but you need to use nutes from day one:bigjoint:

hempy bucket is hard if you don't know what you're doing. you don't. so go with fox farm ocean forest to stay safe.

CFL's emit light better off the SIDES. a reflector is necessary if the top part of the bulb is facing the plants.

also, 4 ft tall is tall enough. you can use LST, super cropping, and other methods to keep plants short, bushy, and high yielding.

and you flowerthe plants whenever you want, a little less than 1/2 the height you have will be ideal for starting 12/12....

How many lumens are you working with and what combination of 27k and 65k I have been wondering if my hood is sufficient for 2 plants 1 week into 12/12 I have 15,300 lumens of 2700k and 3,400 lumens of 6500K with flat white light hood covering a 24"X17" area

lumens don't add... you cant take a 2700 lumen and a 4000 lumen and get 6700 lumens...it doesn't work like that ...your lumens will never be higher then the output of your highest bulb... sorry just the way it works... bongsmilie

you should be just fine i would take a couple of those 2700's and rig them down low tho so you can get some bottom lighting also since they are short...it will help bring the buds up better and more compact in the long run because light wont just be drawing the plant up but down also bongsmilie

I was reading and found that lux cant be added up but lumens can be. A light meter only measures lux Im new to this just trying to get all the details.
