CFL: Calculations and Room Design

I can go down to the corner store and with 10 dollars worth of bulbs and some bagseed you can grow hundreds of dollars of smoke. CFLs are pretty tight. It's like comparing Ferrari and Hyundai. You get what you pay for, and for what you pay, CFLs are pretty amazing for a small personal setup.

My next project will look something like this - I have more up to date renderings of both cfls and t5's that better represent a round bulb that i'll try to upload later along with the corresponding HPS diagrams. Those numbers are not completely accurate but give a rough approximation. Someone remind me to upload by current calcs if you're interested.

This is based on GEs 23w CFLs putting out 1074 lumen each along with t5's up top. Most standard CFLs put out a bit more lumen but I was able to find the throw schematics for the GE bulbs.

DIALux - its a free lighting program used by many interior/exterior designers. Most all large bulb/lamp manufacturer provide specific data on all their products which is automatically integrated into the software in order to compute accurate lighting diagrams. Ton of fun to work with.
