Ceres Orange Bud

Strain: Orange Bud (from Ceres feminized seed)
Growth: 8/10. Ready to harvest at 8 weeks of 12/12, but giving her an extra week can't hurt. Grows very short and thick (31" tall and bushy as hell --- I used "Uncle Ben's technique" for topping to get 4 main colas and it worked like a champ!!!)
Nutes: I use the full Fox Farm line up (including all additives) for soil and grow in 3 gallon pots filled with FFOF soil cut by an additional 20% to 25% of perlite. I follow the FF feeding schedule to the letter --- this strain has absolutely NO problem handling the nutes! I also throw in a teaspoon/gal of Cal-Mag every now and then.
Lighting: Assorted T8's and CFL's during most of veg, then a 600 watt MH for last 2 weeks of 7-week veg, then a 600-watt HPS for flowering.
Yield: 3.28 ounces (1 plant. Dried, de-stemmed, and fully cured for 4 weeks).
Bag appeal: 9/10. Frosty nugs covered in trich's and LOTS of red hairs. The buds actally look more orange than green they are so hairy. Decent density but sacks look BIG.
Smell: Where to start....... This strain really does smell like ripe oranges. It has a very heavy citrus scent with some definite skunky undertones. Get a good whiff inside a jar and I promise you, you WILL start salivating! You can't help it --- it smells that good!
Taste: Even better than the smell, if that's possible!! I always clean my bowl and seamine between bowls -- especially if switching strains (I use an all glass Weed Star Little Bitch bong, if you're curious) -- and let me tell you, when you take the first hit or two from a fresh bowl of this stuff the citrus taste just explodes in your mouth. It's really quite a trip because it really does taste very much like you just bit into a ripe orange. This only seems true for the first hit or two, but thats all I usually put in the bowl at a time anyway.
The High: Ok, I guess this is where the rubber meets the road. Wonderful taste, smell, appearance --- but the high just doesn't do all that much for me personally. Now I have a friend who thinks it is just the absolute best shit on the planet, and light smokers (especially women who don't partake very often) just go crazy over the stuff, but for me the high was a bit disappointing. I mean it's not bad by any means, but for a strain claiming 16.5% THC, I was expecting something stronger.
Comments: Beautiful to look at, taste, and smell. If you are a light or casual smoker you'll probably love it. It's great for a morning wake and bake, but if you are a serious daily smoker the strength leaves a bit to be desired. But that could just be the particular phenotype I have also. Overall a very pleasant smoke --- I will keep this one running for a while, but I'll just grow 1 plant with each grow probably (I do this with a few strains just to keep them going for future use). Not something I'll do a full 8-plant grow of, but it's nice for an occassional change of pace.

Nice review indeed. I also grew a couple of these beauties last summer, they are such a treat to grow! I agree with all you say, except, I personally love the high of orange bud. It is definitely not the strongest bud around, therefore it is perfect for daytime, when you still have be fairly functional and active. I find myself getting chatty and social, indicating a nice distribution of other cannabinoids. Plants with extra high THC content tend to get you very anxious if it does not have a similar percentage of other cannabinoids. So, Orange Bud is one of my favorites to smoke, ESPECIALLY when interacting with a lot of people. I never go to parties without it. Whereas other strains will leave me mute and self-conscious, orange bud brings out all the social charmer. Perfect bud to have around. And the Ceres variety is really excellent. A few pics attached from my first harvest with them. They grow tall. The picture with the cartoon face is one orange bud (the tall one) and one Skunk Haze, also from Ceres Seeds, also a very nice variety. The picture of both of them is taken in the growing phase. The close-ups are obviously in a later phase, shortly before harvest. Good yield, too. Really excellent genetics from Ceres. Highly recommended.
