CC's Hempy Grow - Top 44

So this is my first grow. I have done LOTS of research and spent hours and hours reading different forums and styles. I was originally set on growing Hydroponically but was enlightened by the Hempy Bucket method. Its cheap, easy, and grows very very very well. If your not familiar with it please check out the Hempy Collective thread.

I encourage feedback on this grow, since it is my first!

Supplies:
  • 4 T5-Fluorescents at 6500k for Veg cycle
  • 400w HPS for Flower
  • Botanicare Grow and Bloom nutrients
  • PPM Meter and PH Meter
  • Temp/Humidity Sensor
  • Humidifier
  • DIY Air flow shiot with in fan and out fan (see pics)
  • 2Gal Buckets
  • Perlite (100% perlite grow)
  • Top 44 strain seeds
  • On/Off Timer

So basically I put all this together into a spare closet I had. If you look at the pics you'll see two air ducts, one is in flow one is out. I used a duct fan from home depot and wired it up and fit it right in the air duct i got. Basically once I had all that mounted I setup the hempy, lights, humidifier and germinated my plants.

I've been watering with the botanicare grow nutrients and keeping it at around 300-340ppm and a PH of 5.5-6.5 I also just ordered some cal-mag that should be here today and I'm going to start adding that.

This is my first grow but I'm pretty confident it's going to work out. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts or comments. I'll keep updating this a couple times a week.

Everything is much brighter than my images show, i pretty much get blinded when I open the door. I'm using the two hanging cfl's for side lighting but the 4-T5's are the main light for this cycle. The giant frog at the top of the shelf is my humidifier, it was $29 on amazon and you can control the amount of humidity, its a great deal. I'm currently at 77.7F and 48-52% humidity.

Still been watering the plants daily till I know the roots have hit the resivour. I bumped up my ppm to around 400 now that I have cal-mag. I'm also trying to keep the PH between 6 and 6.5

Plants are getting a little bigger everyday but from what I've read theyll explode:fire: once the roots hit the resivour. One thing I'm not sure about is my humidity levels and temp. I'm keeping them at 76-80f and 45-53% humidity. Once i pop in my HPS I'm going to have trouble keeping it cool in there. I'd love some feedback on the optimal temperatures and humidity.

Looking good. 400 ppm might be a tad high, but if the plants like it, that's what counts.

75-80 really is optimal. Higher than 85 things start to go south. RH, well, anything in the normal range is good.

Squishing your ducting will impair the airflow which you are really going to need when the HPS comes on line. If you could cut a vent in the wall, that would be better. Not everyone can do that. Dont know what your situation is in that regard.

Squishing it was the only way to get it under the door...I don't own the place otherwise i would probably make a more permanent and efficient air flow, but surprisingly I do get decent airflow out of it. I'm thinking when I pop in the HPS and add another pair of in/out ducts and possibly have one go to my A/C depending how hot it gets.

As for the PPM ill lower it back down to 300-350, I don't think theyve hit the res yet so I'm not sure its effects are that noticeable yet? How often and at what increments do you usually raise your PPM up to?

looks great man!
my plants just hit the res, and wow!
you will know when they do!!

best of luck..
Thanks, I can't wait till they hit the res, do you notice it quite quickly when they have? Thanks for stopping by both of you, I appreciate any and all feedback.

So this is day 8 that they have been in the hempy bucket from germination. They look like they are doing quite well and growing new leaves pretty quickly. Not sure if they have hit the res or not but i've heard they explode when they do.

Did a watering without nutes and just used cal-mag and 5.8ph water.

Here are some pics.

Hey man thanks for the props and rep. Yea, I've done a lot of research and am convinced this method is solid. Check out https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/146550-shnkrmns-pickle-bucket-hempy-grow-1.html

or

Their grows were solid. Also read the Hempy Collective thread I linked at the beggining of my post. Such a great way to grow. Thanks for stopping by, I'm subed to your journal!

So yesterday I noticed some weird brown spots on one of my plants. I have been feeding them from the same mix so they have the same PH and PPM so I'm not sure why this is happening to one plant and not the other.

So last night I watered the plant with just plain water and a hint of cal-mag (200ppm total) and PHed the water to 6.0 I checked the run-off water which was at 350ppm and 6.5-6.7 PH. The only thing I can suspect is it might be too high of PH for the plant??
Today I watered it again with just plain water and cal-mag at 200ppm total and PHed to 5.6-5.8ish

On the other hand my 2nd plant is doing quite well. I'm suspecting it hit the res because its growing quite fast. I've posted pics of both the plants including the one with the brown spots. ANY input would be greatly appreciated I don't wanna kill my babies!!

The spots appear to just be on the single leaf. The new growth looks good. Mine usually loose those first leaves after a while. I have found with hempy that if you start in smaller containers results are quicker. I have not had trouble with transplanting several times. 1" rockwool cube, 8oz, 64oz, 2gl, 4gl.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like whatever happened was only to those two leaves, the new foliage looks healthy so Ill just keep monitoring the nutes and ph.

Someguy: For my next grow I think I'm gonna try that out. Do you just make sure when you transplant that the roots are near the res in your new container?

On a side note, the plants are actually kinda stinky, kinda smell like you know what...surprised I'm smelling that 2 weeks into my grow?

All is well, will update with some pics in a couple days or so.

Don't want to give to many details of why on here but basically this was my first grow and I don't have a ton of time to grow these so I just wanted to start out small and get the feel for it. After this grow I'll prolly do 6 plants. I have some feminized seeds

Hempy Method is great, I think i've read a couple of your journals too. Thanks for stoppin by!

Not really, Although, the 640z cups are almost as deep as my 2 gl and the 4 gl is only 4/5 inches taller than that. So they dont really have to go far, but they do get a growth spurt each time they first hit the new res. Xtra room just = more roots = more buds:)

I'm hoping someone can answer this...If a strain says it has a flowering time from 6-weeks(44days), does that mean that after 6 weeks of vegging it will be ready to flower, or that it needs to flower for 6-weeks(44days?)

They are referring to flowering time. Usually plants take longer to finish than the breeder says.

Thanks for the quick reply, so basically I can veg as long as I want!!

Anyone ever tried 2 plants in a hempy?

Should have some updated pics tonight! Plants are gettin bigger, and surprisingly potent already?
