Carbon Filter issues?

I've been running a new carbon filter I got for a total of less than 2 months.

The tent it's in is 4ft L x 4ft W x 6ft H, so its 96 cubic feet.

So the fan connected directly to the filter is rated at 170cfm, which is vented into a lighthood and back out to a 6 inch inline outside the tent rated at 400cfm.

I didnt have any issues until around week 5 of flower with smell. Right now, whenever I get back from going out I can smell it, albeit a slightly muted smell.

I have a switch I can set up to reduce the speed of the fans if that'll help? For reference [FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif] its a CAN 9000 filter.

Any Idea RIU?

Max Recirculating (Scrubbing) CFM: 120 cfm / 186 m³h
Max Exhaust CFM: 55 cfm / 93 m³h

That it's rating as far as I can tell

why are you running two fans the 400 cfm should be plenty so the answer to your question is yes dim it your fan is too over powered for the filter

One thing that might help is put a ona gell block near the exhaust and that should fix the smell

That's the set up, the 120 isn't enough to push through the the hood, it needed something a little heavier to pull out the top. I had a 400cfm sitting around so that's what I decided to use.

I'm having the same problem as of 3 days ago, running a 375 CFM filter with a 400CFM fan and going through the hood. For the first 3 weeks of having the filter installed I couldn't smell anything. Now it's like it's not even working and my entire surrounding grow space reeks of bud.

I hit 5 weeks flowering yesterday

I also have an ona gel block in my veg room, I guess it has to go in the flowering room until I figure out what the deal is

Why are u running 2 different cfm fans in series on the same exhaust? By running the 400 after the the filter its probably finding leaks in your lights or the ducting because your smaller cfm fan cant provide the demand.
Get rid of the small unit and put the 400cfm in its place then tune it with the a speed controller.

Reason is the 120 wasn't enough to push through the hood, so I used the 400 as a bandage.

You're right about the leak though I did a quick check earlier and there is suction coming through the hinges on the lense. I'm thinking at this point of just keeping the 120 with the filter recirculating in the tent. Then I'll redo the hood cooling so it only sucks air from outside the tent and back out to avoid problems hopefully that way.

Filters are of many different qualities. I use Phresh filters and theyre triple activated carbon which i think makes them worth their price, theres obviously a limit to a certain brand/make of filters capabilities. If you have smell issues put your exhausted air some where like attic/basement or outside. Lastly try having filter in tent attached to light hood then light hood attached to fan blowing out. Negative pressure! Peace

yep, that is how I have mine and so far the girls smell is retained in the tent. Though I am only on week 4 of flowering.
