carbon filter advise

I have a 2x2x5 grow tent and I bought a 18 in filter and 8 inch fan I use leds in this tent so heats isn't a issue I just need help with trying to figure out a way to get the filter and fan in there so it can do it's job can't have any smell escape while in not home

Wow, lot of filter and fan for that small a space.
I guess you could put just filter n tent and fan outside. If you can't do that you could put filter in a big tote, and run duct from tent to tote and have fan on outside of tote.

I'm pretty concerned about smell in the place they I'm renting if I leave fan out side of tent would that be to loud ( neighbor) what about setting filter on floor with fan and duct running up out of the tent

I personally never put my exhaust fan in a tent, I mount my filter up top, ducted to my hood and back out top to my fan thats outside the tent. If noise is a concern, suspend your fan with bungee cords and use insulated duct work, helps a bunch

Whats wrong with mounting the fan inside the tent? I've mounted mine directly to the filter, put the filter on the floor and ran the duct up top and out the side. Put the intake on the opposite side of the filter which gives a nice airflow over your plants.

you should be filtering the air int he top of the tent not the bottom? unless im confused with your setup the passive intake should be getting pulled over your plants

Dude would be using a lot of space for his fan/filter.

Honestly OP, you may just be better off paying the exchange fees (shipping whatever) and getting smaller units, 'cause I see this being a lot of trouble. You really do want to have your filter inside the tent, because that is really the only way to ensure that any air leaving the tent is scrubbed nice ya dig?

Good luck though.. I remember that week where I realized I NEEDED a filter, and I could not relax til it actually came and I got set up. You could smell the Fallen Angel up the block, no joke.

Hope you got a speed controller for your fan as well, 'cause that 8 inch can fan bout to have your lil tent flexin like &#8203(lol

leave the fan zipped up. problem solved . and if your using cool tubes. just vent that out a window or atic

Let's see, an 18 in filter.. An 8 in fan which is gonna be at least 12 in across and prob the same height.
Now you place all that in a 2x2 area and you have no room left for plants..
That is unless its not a true inline fan, but a duct booster fan.

Just noticed the same, that grow tent would be the shape of an outhouse.

Nothing is "wrong" with mounting your exhaust fan in your tent but I dont because I dont have the space, airflow is much better by mounting my fan outside the tent as far down line as possible, temps stay 1-2 degrees lower because of the improved airflow and the fact you have 1 less piece of equipment in there, you will have 2 less connections in the tent to possibly leak, and if you mount it as far down line as possible and suspend it with bungee cords from the ceiling it is very quiet, especially with insulated ducting.

Filter in the tent is superior only because all the air is clean so if any escapes the duct work it wont smell. For a small space if its not feasible to have it inside keep it outside but make sure all your connections are 100% air tight or smell will leak out.
An insulated box helps keep fans quiet as does insulated duct work^^.

ok I think this is what I'm going to do. Help me out if I'm Wong. I'm going to put the filter in the tent then run insulated duct through extraction hole to the fan out side of the tent then to silence it more put more insulated duct on extraction side of fan.

You can indeed do it that way.

I put both fan and filter hanging from the top of the tent, I put hvac zip ties to ensure its safe my poles and corners are metal so make sure yours are too or it will come crashing down and break everything.

I do filter then the fan is attached directly to the filter and then put ducting out

my fan sits right on my filter nice and snug, tape the crack so no air goes in. The more ducting you use, the more CFM you lose.
