in my mind, looking around (and at myself)... anything can be addictive. For me smoking in general is an addiction... the habit as much (maybe even more) than the effect.

Another thing is... substances like all the stuff in cannabis, organic or not, natural or not, affects neurochemistry and physiology. Everything does. Especially over time.

Either because of the effects itself, like with tobacco and idk, cocaine as another... or because of the psychological effect that you develop... when I smoke pot I usually am chilllin' out, relaxing... it both makes me feel good and is associated with other things I like (chillin')... so, does it relax me because of it's chemical effect, or because I associate it with sitting around relaxing?

I see a lot (most?) people around me addicted to something... alchohol and pot are maybe the most prevalent due to social acceptance... really.. we are addicted to tech, to buying, sex, approval, working out, food, religion... I doubt there's a person out there without that kind of vice.

I know that while I have a couple o... decent reason or my med card, it's still mostly for recreational use... as I've hardly seen a difference in my other symptoms (pain, tension, appetite problems, problems sleeping)... like most other drugs (like prescription pain killers) it just makes me dull to the problems. Right now as I wait to find out what's wrong with me that's enough...

It helps my anxiety, and keeps me from being overly... aggressive? Angry? That sort of thing.

I know there are med patients out there, I have known a few... but compared to the rec users I've met... like 1 in a hundred or less. And I look at the products... and most everything is high THC... where I know a lot of patients are looking for CBD... well if medical ops were growing medically, they'd be growing more (not all, but certainly more) CBD strains... and others that might be more associated with the medicinal benefits, as opposed to the strains that are popular with rec users, which is again, MOST of what I see out there.

I'm not necessarily trying to talk anyone out of smoking pot, but I'd like to acknowledge that there's a lot more danger to it than people always want to make believe.

If you smoke it.... well, you are SMOKING. That is never healthy.

The truth is simple: we need many things to live... things like alcohol, cannabis, or other mind altering substances aren't on that list. We just enjoy them. I we were truly perfectly happy with out lives, would we really need to change the way we think and feel, especially to such extremes? Experimentation is one thing. Regular use cannot really be justified.

I am actually suffering from depression right now, for a while, apparently due to an extreme vitamin d deficiency... but I definitely FEEL more depressed when I stop smoking.

My main addiction to it is that "aaah!' sort of satisfied feeling... and the sheer habit.

I hope to quit tobacco sometime soon, but am not ready.

Cannabis? At least cut back... I can't recall the last time I was high... i get stoney... but hardly even.. just... leveled out.

What are the health risks to marijuana you are most concerned about? What are the health risks to depression you are most concerned about? Which has the higher risk?

HAHAHA great way to try to rationalize... but no dice.

Let's say for both it's death (cancer vs suicide)... well statistically one might be more likely than the other (more depressed people suicide than pot smokers getting cancer, as a fictitious example).

But what are MY chances of each, if I suffer from both? Well if I smoke a shit load of pot for my mild depression, we'd say one... If I was deeply depressed and only smoked a bit, the other...

Which is better, suicide or cancer?

Anyway, it's not depression vs weed either... I think the OP may have also been referring to depression due to stopping smoking weed. Which of course is a thing. Even i only psychologically (as opposed to chemical)... people getting down because a) they can't do something that made them feel good before, and b) facing up to whatever problems they might have (stress or whatever) without the assistance of pot.

You can deny marijuana can be a problem if you want... most people do. No worries.

Risk of lung cancer is about the same for a pot smoker as a non-smoker. Per Tashkin UCLA medical study. What type of cancer are you referring to?

That may be true (IDK) but the majority of pot smokers spin it with tobacco. They then hold the smoke in their lungs for a period of time before exhaling. Tobacco as we all agree does indeed cause cancer.

Hadn't even thought about that, as even though I smoke tobacco I smoke them separately (at the same time, but you know, a cig and a pipe of cannabis)...

Just the tar in any smoke, and other particulates, and the stress on the lungs... makes me dubious to claims that smoking in and of itself is not harmful enough to cause... if not cancer then a host of other pulmonary problems.

Never met a hardcore pot smoker (no tobacco) who could run on a track team.

I have a variety of physical "issues" that I treat with cannabis, so it helps me feel better -- literally. Is that addiction? I'm thinking not -- but I would definitely miss it if it was gone.
The mental aspect is a plus, but it can also hinder if I let it.

The test would come if your issues were resolved and you had no reason to smoke... I mean would you keep smoking?.. let's say yes, with no more reason than you liked it and it isn't so bad, but then there was a good reason to stop... ex.: I believe most people are rec users... a lot complain about trying to find work... but oh no the drug screenings man what a pain.. well... if you'd rather smoke pot than make a living... there's a problem... not saying the system is fair, but in those conditions, it seems more detrimental and a sign of some level of "dependency"

Try to give it up for a month. Then you will know.

The UCLA medical study conducted by Dr. Tashkin found that people who smoked both pot and cigarettes had the same risk of lung cancer as non-smokers. It was the cigarette only smokers who had elevated cancer risks.

Quitting pot is sissy shit compared to other drugs.
Not the point. And for someone who never has had to quit other drugs, it still feels tough (is it "sissy"? ok, but it's still "true").

I think crying because someone you know died is sissy, the more distantly you know them the more sissy... but pretty much everyone I loved is dead, so I have a different tolerance for that kind of pain, and a different perspective on the idea.

You seem to have a problem with this thread, why are you here?

Where I come from we call that trolling.

Most people agree with you, there's plenty of places for that... this is for those who think there's a valid point behind this issue to talk about that.

Sounds like you need a shrink to sort out some issues. I've been there and it helps. Good luck.
