Thanks Everyone.

This is an Afghan Kush Ryder (it's in a 3gal smart pot, but I didn't know how to use them properly so i under-filled and over-watered and it was basically shrunk to a 1gallon pot worth of usable soil. The buds still smell. A LOT.

Alright guys,

As promised I am going to be starting my bonsai tutorial. I will be posting everything in this thread, so if you want to follow the project, sub up, and enjoy the ride!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction:
For this bonsai, I will be using a Cannatonic - Resin Seeds (clone from the plant i've been posting pics of in this thread #bonasai^2 #efficiency)
I like this particular strain because it has very cool, 'typical marijuana leaves', and I also want to get some buds off of it since I am not going to flower the original mother bonsai.
It is supposed to be veyr high in CBD, or at least have a few phenos that are. Not too sure about the other phenos as the information I've read online isn't very detailed, or recent, and not as many people try to grow these cbd rich strains.

This plant was taken as a clone, and then topped once causing it to look like this (grown under t5's):

I trimmed all but the top two nodes, and then topped each of the four remaining tops. I got 3 cuttings that are sitting in water now.

This post is just to let all of you who commented know that a tutorial has been started in this thread. :)

This is a fucking art you gotta love your plant to get it to this level, trimming roots and all ...LIKE!
nice work man, that is some very nice work indeed!
wonder what would happen if you kept her (bonsai mom) well manicured but transplanted to a 10 gallon? root system would be huge so i'd imagine if you ever flowered her you'd get some gigantic fruit!
be easy,
:leaf:
Awesome...
Wow, never thought of that before :D
This is as discrete as it gets :D
update please:weed:
Great work man. I love making crazy looking plants. I wouldn't be able to have that much leaf in one area, I been battling mites. Yuck
I've always wanted to try this, I might just have to create a little bonsai of my own!
She looks beautiful.
What are the specifics of cannatonic? High CBD? Or is it fun-time weed? Either way. that is a good looking girl. No smell issues with her out and about?
That is pretty cool, man. I've always wanted to do some crazy stuff with LST. Like a crzy side winder with a staircase of some sort. It is usually the mothers that I get to practice on. Good shit, Dude
That looks awesome, Good Job!
I tried to make a bonsai before, but I failed. I think I may have cut too much root off.

Can you elaborate on exactly how you do your root trimmings?
What type of soil you are using?
What percentage of the root ball do you remove? Just the bottom, or the sides as well?
Do you add anything specific to help the plant recover from taking roots from it?
Perhaps explain your process for us, and take photos the next time you do this.
Thanks.
Beautiful! I've always wanted to do this to keep a mother for cloning…congrats on a stunning job! +rep!
Nice job!! That's a great way to keep a mother plant, especially if you're not planning on taking any clones for a few weeks.
Cool, you revegging?
Agreed, I would like to see a little bit of the trimming process. Cool Project man. And Functional. How many clones do you take at a time?

Hope you don't mind me posting a link but it was a quick tutorial I found:
How to make a Bonsai Tree

I sense a friendly Bonsai contest in the near future. I have a bunch of cuttings I took so one of them is going to be turned into a bonsai. Cool thread man!
I have read about the process of making bonsai trees before, that is the reason I attempted it for Marijuana.
However, I found that there is a big difference in your average household plant, and pot.
I believe I may have taken off too much roots, or maybe trimmed too much of the plant in addition.
Perhaps my downfall was soil moisture level when the unpotting, and trimming took place.
I am not sure exactly what I did wrong to kill my plant, but since I did, I never tried it again.

I subscribed to this thread, and give OP a rep+
No hurry in the tutorial of this advanced form of training, but looking forward to seeing it.
random bump to keep this thread alive.
tried to rep the same pic twice.. prob was stoned that day
aweeeeesoooooome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A little late to the party but, nice work!! Always wondered about doing what your doing.
my friend planted a grapefruit seed 20 years ago(I think)and has kept it about the same size! Awesome roots showing and it makes tiny fruit..
Well interested in this kind of Grow in-fact often check out GB's Thread to see how His Shakira is doing(and she Looking Lovely, bit bare at the moment...because of a Trim)...really want to Try this but got too many issues with Damn GR @the min..But IF you into Training and such have a Butchers @ GB's thread.

This is exactly what I've been looking for! Great thread! +rep How long can you keep a mama like this?
Thanks for the Rep! so far, I have yet to hear about a cannabis plant dying of old age when kept in veg, so the answer to how long you can keep a bonsai, is: Indefinitely (years easily).
You will jsut need to repot it in fresh soil every once in a while to give it fresh nutrients to live off of, but you can just wait todo this until it starts looking kinda crappy. Some simple blood and bone meal will keep it going in the same pot for months tho.

This one is still beastin and its outlived almost 3 auto cycles already hahaha

Part 2:
I had topped a couple branches about a week or so ago, and then removed some yellow leaves.

Broke off bottom roots that were growing up the sides of the pot and shook of a lot of soil.

Repotted. (soil now has a tiny bit of vermiculite and a sprinkle of blood/bone meal)

This is defo on my project list for next years grow, this year is my first grow so this should be a fun little experiment to go with the rest of my grow next year, soooo cool! well done bro.
