Canada grow log 2016

Hey guys
I just wanted a place to be able to share and write down my log for this year's grow but I don't wanna invade other people's thread lol so here's mine, you guys are welcome to invade it with what you guys are up to in your patches
I have 5 clones still, they're all in a sunny window and solo cups, there growing impressively fast though. I was away for a day and there all going crazy, every one of them has a whole new set of leaves after just the one day I was away. It snowed today so I want to wait to put them outside full time, but I am running out of space in the window... I bring them onto the deck in the daytime for a couple of hours but their growth I think is really impressive considering they don't have optimal lighting at all and they're only in solo cups. Last year I was using a 400w CFL homemade grow lamp and they didn't grow anywhere near this fast.. I think I've got some good genes here lol too bad I dont know what it is... it's an indica is all I know sadly

Pics or it never happened - lol Good luck with your grow, don't have mine outdoor yet, we got some snow here yesterday too (Collingwood), hoping spring starts next weekend I'm just doing two in 15 gal pots outside, but they've been vegging for a few weeks indoor waiting for the weather to cooperate so they should be monsters.by the time I get them out there. Here's a pic from a week ago, they're in a 2x2 tent and 3gal pots.

Around the great lakes region in Ontario, with the lakes all around us we get some crazy stuff happening sometimes

I wish I could attach pictures but when I hit upload a file my phone let's me chose the pictures and everything to post and when I go to post them it says it can't because I don't have enough memory even though i have 20gb free lol?

We have a short season, lets hope this turns around soon! I use the phone browser from time to time but don't upload pics through there, I don't think a phone browser works for uploading pics. Have a look around in the Help section, I think they may have an app that can be used.

Question to my fellow northern growers

Have any of you had issues with budworms this far north? If they will be a problem I want to be prepared but I have also heard they don't bug plants this far north because butterflies only lay their eggs in like June and july around here bc it gets too cold for the caterpillars later in the season? Do any of you use BT on your plants? And if u don't do u have any problems with budworms?

I've never run into them and have grown anywhere between Barrie and Parry Sound. Slugs can be a problem in some areas. I don't spray them with anything other than for PM where I am now.

I heard of a trick for slugs.

Leave a big log in your patch and on a sunny day go to it and flip it over and if the slugs were eating your plants they will all be hiding from the sun under there because it's the closest shade. Or check under your pots. I already have a really big log in the middle of my patch so I might flip it over on a really hot day in summer and pour beer under it and flip it back over. I heard they'll absorb it and die, anyone have tricks for killing them in their hiding places because I don't think picking them off your plants is the most efficient method bc they'll be eating other things around too and you just won't be able to spot all of them..

I have 3 chickens. They decimate the slug population in my garden lol

Leaving some foliage (any type of fresh leaves) around the base of the plants works fairly well, they tend to stay there vs. climbing up the plants but it's not foolproof. Some years are worse than others, just like bugs they tend to go in cycles.

Hey guys

This morning woke up to something crazy.
One of my seeds has fully germinated finally! I have 5 clones at another location and I had 3 cups in my window and kind of gave up, then I looked this morning and there's a little plant all the way above ground, little cotyledons stretched out and the next ones popping too so I'm pretty happy I wasnt thinking any of my seeds would actually work and I'd have to use all clones but now I'll have one from seed too! It will be a bit behind I'm thinking though because the clones are almost a foot tall and really tight node spacing, while this little guy just popped, but she will be ok I think

Well I live by the great lakes but on the other side of thr border. Best thing for slugs....pie pan full of beer near your plant. They are super drawn to it...they crawl inside and die ... (a happy death) lol

I might try that although I'm afraid it might attract animals.. It may sound crazy but we have used beer in a tray as bait for deer before and they've went to it.. I wonder which is a worse enemy deer or bugs and slugs

I know what u mean hon....I always pee by my plants and the deer have never bothered them....but I promise u....nothing works better on slugs then beer. My mom taught me that from mother earth magazine that she had read in the 70s. Every day I go out there....at least 10-20 slugs dead...but none on my plants.

Okay I'll try the beer trick and put up with if the deer bug them xD thanks

Today will be the first day that the clones will be outside all day. Put them outside before I left in the morning and they'll be out until it gets dark. Usually I bring them outside just for a few hours after school. They have a ton of new growth so I hope they take the extra sun well

I have the seed sprout in a clear plastic cup so I can see when it gets root bound, and its under a 100w equivalent CFL for now. I still have 2 seeds left that could possibly still pop up, one is in soil and one is in Coco coir, and the one that sprouted is in dirt too. If all goes perfectly I'll have 8 plants going outside, and I may get another 2 clones from a friend to make it 10.

Here's one problem i found.. I don't think they'll be good in 5 gal bukets.. everyone on here says they need at least 10-15 gallons outside.. I absolutely do not want to go through all the veg work and have them end up with very few crappy buds.

Planting in the ground isnt an option. I only have one hole, my ground is virtually impenetrable unless you find where an old tree has rotted and you dig out the old rotten roots. So I have only one hole that I will chose the most promising clone I have to go in the hole, the rest have to be in pots or maybe garbage bags.. any ideas? I need these to work out they can't be shitty.. the one hole I have that plant will be a monster it's probably like 200 gallons to be honest. It's almost to my waist and its about 6 feet by 4 feet, only half full of native soil because of all the rocks I had to pull out. I also mix in coffee grinds I get from my work, but I'm thinking of buying peat moss because it's cheap and some black topsoil and mix it with peat moss to fill my buckets, is that good or what would you suggest? Im not adding nutrients because I had water soluble nutrients. But seriously I don't want tiny plants with a couple shitty buds what can I use for pots? Their first transplant I'll be using promix and after that I was thinking peat moss and black soil but give some suggestions if u know something better

If you put enough beer out maybe the deer will get drunk, go find a mate and forget about bothering your plants 10 or 15gal fabric pots work well, that's all I grow right now outdoor until we're legal, you can grow some huge plants in those fabric pots. These are 2x 10gal from last year, pulled 21 zips between them in the end.

Where can I get those? I may start them in 5 gal buckets and transplant a bit before flower if they looklike they need more room

Any hydro shop on or offline will sell fabric pots, some people call them smartpots. A couple of links...
