The salvia tends to shoot up baby plants from around the base as it matures, mine has a a 2 week old baby and its doing much better than a cutting does in a long time.
P.S. my sally got topped acidentaly by a car door, and is just bushing out if anything. It was a salvage job, with heavy insect infestation wich just a few days worth of exposure to the carnivirous creatures that scour my garden, cured. I don't believe in useing agricultural pesticides.
Especailly usefull is a tiny wasp, I find hunting around the sally often. My weed plants more often are guarded by mantises.
