Hey fellow RIU'ers! Quick question hoping someone could help me out on..

I need to pick up a decent 175W MH Bulb.

Found this on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/175-W-Watt-20000K-Metal-Halide-Aquarium-Bulb-Lamp-Reef_W0QQitemZ120485030054QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c0d77a8a6#ht_1332wt_1167

Would that Aquarium light work for vegg as well as a standard MH bulb??

I found this on BGHydro.com: http://www.bghydro.com/BGH/itemdesc.asp?ic=HLRBMH017&eq=&Tp=

I'm trying to save a few bucks, but I dont wanna waste money on a bulb that isn't suited for growing..

Any help would be much appreciated:peace:

I didn't see any color temp listed on that second bulb but the one on eBay, at 20,000 temp, is going to be way too blue. You need to be looking for grow bulbs in the mid 5000's.

If you are fimilar with aquarium lighting you should look up ushio i believe. hellolights.com stocks alot of the bulbs that will fit that fixture and ballast. If you have a double ended light i dont think there is a light lower then a 6500K. But if you have a single ended i believe ushio makes a 5K light that could work for vegging

The problem with most high quality 'aquarium' bulbs is that the price, much like with 'grow' bulbs, will be inflated if for no other reason than they say 'aquarium' or 'grow' on the packaging. Finding a proper temperature bulb on a lighting supply web site can take a bit more time but can also save you quite a bit of money.
