Lol this is turning out like a defoliation argument. Even though non defolled growers ALWAYS have bigger plants...People still believe that defoliation can increase yields...what a joke. Just to hammer it home...the right side had 4 plants that were defolled...They yielded the same amount as the three plants on the left that weren't defolled. Biggest non defolled plant yield 190g, biggest defolled plant 128g. Defoliation is a great way to reduce your yield.
I'm a noob, sorry, but when you say defoliation, I'm assuming you're talking about taking leaves off... are you talking about topping? What are you talking about so I can try to do what you're saying to do, because you seem to know what you're talking about. That's not to say I won't take it with a grain of salt :) THanks

Yeah. If you're new than don't confuse it with pruning. There are valid reasons to take parts off a plant that it wouldn't get rid of itself. You will often hear words like humidity and air flow whenever pruning is brought up and those factors are in direct relation to plant health.

I guess the prime example for bad defoliation is removing a fan leaf to expose a bud site underneath. Maybe if the reasoning was to expose more fan leaves to light (they're the true power plant of the plant, not budsites) than this argument could possibly hold true but in this day and age there's no excuse to have lights that can't penetrate through a couple of leaves.

Topping is a great way to increase yields and unlike defol has thousands upon thousands of photos to prove it, not to mention the academic based studies. As far as I am aware there have been no university studies that have proven taking leaves off plants will be of any benefit. That's why the defol subject attracts so many bro scientists. Because no scientific studies have bothered to debunk it.

Gotcha, yeah, basically, you don't wanna mess around with them too much. One other question if you don't mind, but can you run a 24 hour light cycle for the autos during the first 3 weeks while it's in veg? I've always gone with a 24 on during veg for photo period plants, then 12/12 for flower. I was thinking 24 on during veg then 20/4 for flower or should I just be on 20/4 the whole time?

Can't help with auto's sorry as I only do them for fun but I know for sure you can run lights 24/7 for a while on them, but time wise I have no idea.

Hey im just a new grower but an answer that screams out at me is that you must have put your plants through stress with you defol technique which could have caused a period of growth delay. maybe the process was too rough .But hey what do i know.

There was a definite delay. Even people that defol admit it will stunt growth. I took 30% of the leaves off over the course of a week. That was around 7.5% of leafage per strip with a day inbetween to recover. But like I said, regardless of when I would have defolled I would have still ended up with less weed than the non defolled side.

No thats incorrect auto flowers will automatically go into flower as soon as the plant is mature enough so you will be fine with 20/4 or 18/6 anything less is just depriving your auto plants of light.also bare in mind that plants are living things and need some time to rest, 24/7 light does work but i just cant see it being the best option
