Can someone help with DWC

Can someone please widen my knowledge and help me understand.
when you’re growing dwc can the roots be fully submerged if air rated with a stone and pump or does there have to be a gap for roots to take in air? If there has to be a gap how do you adjust that when the roots are at the bottom of the bucket and what level should you refill to when you change the reservoir.
Would really appreciate some help.
I also have a question about nuts and following the feed charts but that’s for another day

You tend to.leave at least 2" from bottom of net pot to water

But

As they drink that will change every day, especially in late flower when the eat a gallon+ a day

Thank you that does help. So every time refill 2” below the net pot? Does this allow enough room for air for roots

Oh nice. I change weekly so don’t really top up as I don’t understand how to do that way any how to work out nutrients

I keep it 1" below also.
Top off is easy.
Say you have 25g of water, and you feed 1ml/g (25 ml). Then the plants drink 3 gallons of water.
You now mix 3g at the same strength;1ml/g (3ml) and refill with that.
