I am going to go with 400 watt HPS and was wondering if I can put an MH bulb in the same reflector and ballast that I use for the HPS?
I want to use MH for veg and HPS for flower. Is this........400w BOTH HPS+MH GROW LIGHT 400 watt Sodium and Halide! on eBay Hydroponics, Seed Starting, Gardening Plants, Home Garden.... the same as this.......NEW 400 watt HPS Grow Light 400w Hydroponic Sodium Lamp on eBay Hydroponics, Seed Starting, Gardening Plants, Home Garden without the extra timer and bulb? Are either of these a good deal? if not please tell me where to get the good deal.

Mr I Can Do That For Half
The bulbs cant be interchanged. You have couple options here. You can buy a switchable ballast which has a switch that says hps or mh you flip it to which mode you want then use the correct mh or hps bulb. You can also buy a conversion bulb if your ballast is just hps or just mh.These bulbs basically are designed to give opposite light from the ballast ie anhps ballast gets an mh conversion bulb which gives off mh light. These are about 100 bucks a pop.I just bought brand new 600 watt digital ballast that can use either or they detect which bulb is in and fire the need balasts inside. These digital ballasts are brand new cost $115 each shipped with 3 year warranty. Most cost effective. You can use same mogul sockets and reflectors but can just shove an mh bulb in an hps ballast they will explode and you cant use smaller bulbs like a 250 watt bulb in a 400 watt ballast as a fire ball will burn your house down...Good luck
