I've got 2 babies under 4 cfls too. They're 12 and 7 days old. In less than a week, I'll double the cfls but not sure when to go hps! I'm guessing by week 3-4 they'll be ready to go!
I'll be watching for more info too.

I run a 4x5 grow tent , 2 400w hid , 220 Cali works solar flare , and a 50w led , I put mine straight under the 400 hid and leds , now for the first 3 days I kept my lights high roughly 3 foot LEDs can be lil closer , then I lowered down to 18 inchs and there 22 days today and showed sex ... So if u keep ur heat down which my light at 3 foot high was puttin heat off at bout 77 degrees when I got it down to 18-19inchs I'm hitin 80-81 . My autos took fine to the light ... My oppion I like keepin my lights higher then most , I like to allow a small stretch over just plus bush , first pic is like day 5 to 7 or something like that , then the next is day 22 ... Idk if uve messed with autos but there will be small slow growth till that tap hits the bottom then just crazy noticable growth each day .

No problem any time . Now I will say this shit I bout forgot when I had my lights high like 30 inchs or whatever them ladies stretched a lot quick fast and two fell over cause the stem was weak I shoulda kept the led close then the hid but I didn't live and learn but u might wanna stake them or keep a close eye , I'm gone 15 hours a day good when I left fell over when j got home , I got 3 fans in the tent blowin air across and one fan blowing air inside so they move a lot but still high light Dnt make good stems , I would guess to say u could probly go 24 to 28 inchs with that 600 and be good but I started around 30 ish

Hey Aynzli!
While I'm a new grower myself, my advice to you is very limited. I'm growing in a grow tent, 4x4x6 n currently running 2x 450w panel LEDs. I have started seedlings in the past under 6x150w CFLs n believe it or not, was the only light I chose to use from start to finish n my 1st grow yielded a 7oz plant. That was my 2x3x6 closet grow. Since my so called 'upgrade', I have been germinating n growing under the 2x450w LEDs. Like I said, I'm a newbie myself n have no experience with the 600w hps, but I would like to imagine that for autos, start to finish, you should be good, but I think the most important is how many plants are you trying to grow n are we talking just the 1 hps? Hope my input was exactly that, just input n I wish you all the best with your grow!

I have a two Dinafem fruit autos and a auto roadrunner along with some photos in my 4x4. I also have 600w hps. I think starting with a light which is not as intense is better. I've grown autos under a few t-5s and they vegged much quicker.
JUST put a pyramid seeds super hash auto in the dirt. Gonna veg her outside and see how she does compared to the ones in my tent...

if temps are good, you can start with the 600 (i would). might want to keep it raised a little high for the first day or two just in case. rule of thumb on the light, if it's too hot on the back of your hand, it's too hot for the plants and too close. do you have an air cooled hood?

Just keep a close eye out for light bleaching in the early stages.
I had a complete white out on a 600$ order of beans by chucking them under a 400 watt MH right from the get go. The light was too close I'll admit that. That was because of advice from someone who "knew what they were doing" and I had no indoor experience whatsoever. There is such a thing as too much light.
If it were me...
I suggest just raising your light to whatever the "preferred" distance is for whatever light you're using. Since it's a 600 watt I'd personally raise it to 2 or 2.5 feet. Since they're autos you really don't want them growing up to reach the light and turning into stretchy seedlings. That'd be days and time wasted and you're on a set schedule from they day they pop up out of the soil.

I'll be running a 600w HPS in my 4x4 tent and have a dimmable ballast (250w, 400w, 600w + Superlumans)

I've been adviced to do 250w first week, then 400w next week - 10 days and 600w the rest of the grow.

Got an aircooled hood so what would be my starting height for the light, 30 inches?

Wow! I should've paid more attention to where you were hailing from! Your have natural everything at your disposal. Climate, medium, n anything you can possibly think of at your whim. I soooooo envy you! Plz, keep me posted on your grow. I'm very interested on how it works out. I have a brethen from Grand Spen(not sure on spelling), short wood grove. Good luck n hope to see a mean green grow!

Yeh gotcha they just popped out the ground but want them under the hps as soon as possible, my other girls under the hps are 16-18 inch away from canopy.

So It's a balance between stretch and burn lol
