Can I make my plants wider?

I have my first little growing operation going.
I am growing black russian and the plants are getting quite tall but they are very thin, including the stems. I am going to try and plant the stems deeper when i re-plant into bigger pots, and possibly try to put a fan on them. I'm hoping that will solve my stem problem.

As for the width of the plants, Does anyone know a technique to make them wider? I'm sure there is a technique that I don't know of.

I was also thinking maybe shining the light on to the plant from the side, and rotating them might make then grow outwards (i.e. wider).

What do you think? Thanks in advance.

EDIT: This is indoor.

Well your in luck ....several things you can do As stated earliar put a fan to streangthen the main stalk. you could also supercrop your lovley ladies. gently squeezing node branches where ther is new growth just so ever slightly till you feel a slight crack and simply bend your stem it will recover in a day or two but the out come is beutiful FULL wider plants.... bending them forces to grow out then up so take that into consideration. Another thing you can do is TOP your lil ladie cutting new growth on top also forces the plant to stop growing vertically and starts to fill in with new growth coming from bottom portion of plant there for causin christmas tree look............. if ya like the response REP. me bro THANKS!!!!!!!!!

yeh, just the topping alone(pincing out the middle part of the newest growth) will stunt their height and they will bush outwards madly,i tried this with an outdoor early skunk and an auto ak 47,excellent results for bushyness, the ak was stolen, and alass, the early skunk i had topped at 2 weeks, turned male at about 2 and a half months old, weird, but it was master bushy
