depends what soil you are going to use. is it a homemade batch or brand name?

you could use some corn hulls, a really good grower on here shared that secret with me, says it works great...

Sure you can go without it.

You will also probably learn more than you ever wanted to know about problems due to poor drainage/soggy soil.

um im using just straight soil nothing else do i need to mxi in petlite cus i cant find it so can i do it without
the only problem i see with straight soil is that it packs down and doesant let enough oxygen to the roots , thats why most people mix in perlite or vermiculite .. and olylifter420 is right .. corn hulls work great but they have to be well dried and bug free .. peatmoss or some other composted material would be good but may screw around with your ph ...

yeah, it matters, you want your soil to be nice and airy so the roots can grow without impedement. ALso, if its too clay like it will compact and give your roots a hard to grow in and will drain slow, you want a soil that will drain rather quickly so perlite and vermiculite to me is a must everytime i make a batch of soil

um idk i havent bought it yet cus im not sure im just gona buy some soil with nothing in it those it matter if its clay or airy?

dude any home depot will sell perlite in the garden section for like 10 bucks. you dont need it to grow, BUT IT WILL make your life a hell of alot easier. you wont have to worry so much about drainage, root rot, ph imbalance, nutrient lock out, and pests like gnats (they come for soggy soil). so once again you dont need it, but why make it harder on yourself to save 10 bucks? at the risk of sounding like my father, "ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH DOING RIGHT"
