I'm doing my first grow and the plants are flying along about 18" high, they are now under 12/12 for 5 days. Is it ok to flower under cfls?

Yes, you can indeed flower under cfls. Get enough of 'em to get close to all your bud sites and make sure they are in the 2700k spectrum. Sometimes they are labeled as "General Purpose" but you can double check on the manufacturer's website if the spectrum isn't printed on the box.

Thanks guys, I have 5 at the moment on 3 plants emitting 1100watts each, I should know in the next week which are girls so the 3 plants could be reduced. I take it I could put the lights at various levels?

I am using cfl's now about 4 per flowering plant I have them all around the plants one advantage to using cfl's is the number of normally dark places you can now reach with light I am very happy thus far with what my cfl's are doing buds at 4 weeks look about the size i used to get with just regular flouros . I am starting to work the 42 watt bulbs in but most i have are the 26 watters something like an 8-9 dollar difference between the bulbs. So yes i think you can flower with a good amount of cfl's all the bulbs i have are 2700k or 3000k which i believe is around where i want it to be

You should consider keeping a few of the daylight or 26w bulbs in the mix.
This will give you a broader spectrum of light.
The plants will love you for it.

welcome to the forum lucy. Keep in mind those plants are going to double or triple in height during flowering. Congrats on getting them to that height using the cfl's. I know you'll get enought more light for these soon to be 4' high plants. Did you remember to take some clones? Good, it will save you a lot of time. VV
