Can anyone attest to leaving the lights off = quicker thc turn over?

I would have to agree with dark it is only logical that only 24-48 hours would be enough time. After that the plant would not have enough stored energy to produce anymore thc.

Well it sounds like your plants not ready so placing it in the dark is going to stop/slow trichs from turning clear to cloudy. So I dont think a dark period is best for you. The larger buds need a week or more to dry so they can be jarred and stored. Your in a bad spot. You couold go ahead and let it grow for as long as possible and cut down at the last second. Maybe jar it for the day you move, and then hang the wet buds up the same day or day later to dry properly. Its not perfect but your not going to get perfect. You need to do the best you can with what you got. I feel for you man.

yeah ideally i would have another week or two. my dad is coming up here thursday to help me move my bed etc., so, I could let it keep growing all the way up until then, but then i'll have almost no where to properly hang them upside down in the dark. i'm driving down to florida friday, so i'll be able to bring them in the car with me.

can i let them dry out in brown paper bags instead of hanging them upside down in the dark? whats the point of inverting them? cause i could see me getting away with drying them out in brown paper bags instead and maybe just hang them upside down for a day...

kind of desperate here and would love an expert opinion...

SUMMARY:
-My plants need to keep going, but I have to be out of my apartment by friday morning.
-I desperately turned the lights out a couple days ago, and the plants have been in the dark since
Question:
1) do I harvest now, and use my last few days to hang them upside down to dry? I'm concerned there still might by some "shitty-brand organic" nutrients left in the soil/plant which may have given me a nautious feeling when i plucked/smoked a bud, although maybe thats what happens with uncured bud...
2) do I give it a few more days in the light (~2-3), and then let it dry upside down for 1 day, and then do the rest of the drying in brown paper bags?

36 hours is the longest the plant can go without sunlight. There really isn't much of a reason to stop at 12 or 24 when the full 36 hours has the highest potential for benefit. Note: not all plants' THC production will benefit from this dark period but some do, its hit or miss but its a good start to a cure so i do it to every plant

Anything you do will be quick dry technique that isnt hanging. You can use a paper produce to help get the moisture out, but be careful of what kind of paper you use. Any kind of paper is going to draw out the Thc as well as the water, and that will weaken the potency. Wrap in the wrong kind of paper (newpaper ect) and you could put chemicals on the buds that will make taste bad and even be harmful when smoked. I think maybe putting them in jars might a good way to go. But you will need to burp the jars prob. several times a day to release moisture. Not sure how long fresh bud will last in jars before molds and fungus might start to grow. Mold and fungus will be your enemy in the jars so you need to combat that somehow. You could treat the buds with Neem oil, it an organic anti fungus and mold treatment. It disapates in 24 hrs, is safe to treat plants with (leaves and buds) and should not effect the plant adversly at all. Maybe only treat w/ Neem every other day that they are in the jars until you can hang them properly. These are only suggestions. You may find a better way and I hope you do. Hears an interesting read on Neem: http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/houseplt/msg111733153759.html One last word of advice. Always try to research the facts behind what ppl suggest. Get a basic understanding how things work and ask if this will work for your situation. People mean well and try to help, but often people only know what they have been told and most always dont realy understand HOW it works. Your in a unique situation and your not going to get a cut and paste answer to your question. Try to do the best you can. Good luck.

i really do appreciate your frankness. i do enjoy a heady high, so an early harvest won't be the worst thing I do, but my concern is I did not flush it enough.

i just need to find a balance between preventing mold while harvesting and ensuring i have washed out any chemicals that could impart a bad taste.

i've decided to flush it today, turn the lights back on, put it back on its regular light schedule for the next 2 days, then cut and let them dry for 2 days hanging, and then brown paper bags (lunch bags) until they can go into glass jars.

so here she is. i checked the trichs under a scope. some buds seem like they are ready for the taking, others are still clear. i'm going to try and let them go until wednesday and give them one day for drying... i'm just praying for no mold!

kinda hard to pull this off outdoor if you dont have a grow room allready inside
You could put a 55 gallon barrel or outdoor trash can over it on top of one inch sticks or rocks (to allow air flow), if they'll fit. It might trap a whole lot of heat in it that way though, so I'd try painting the can white and doing a test run with a thermometer inside. Just taking a shot in the dark (pun intended). If it won't fit in a barrel, then that's a good problem to have. Maybe rig up something up with mylar or emergency blankets, twine, sticks, and/or bailing wire if you wanted to try it.

Yea I was thinking all that could be doing more harm then good, a risk/reward type deal here...I'm not sure its really worth it if the plant is stressed out from heat, could ruin everything
