CalMag during flower?

I read a post this week about stopping feeding CalMag during flower, is there a reason for this?

As well, how far into flower do you stop feeding nitrogen? I've been having some trouble with fading during veg and fixed the problem with a bit of N, how long can I continue it?

Thanks.

I never stop feeding N during flower.

i do reduce my feed towards the end of the flowering cycle though.

Dr Bruce Bugby about organics/synthetics/flushing etc.

Its an interesting video that’s for sure.

Including the last segment where Bugby talks about the possibility of breeding into Cannabis 16 hour flowering days for better yield (although not actually there yet)

He also talks about the half life of chlorophyll only being 2 days inside the plant and those that flush to remove Chlorophyll etc (pre harvest flushing) when the process happens during drying (which is what a lot of us have been saying for years)

If you’re growing in Coco it’s my understanding and experience that you use Cal/Mag all the way through or you risk lockout. The cal/mag bonds to the Coco.

If you do a flush (which there’s debate about whether or not it’s necessary) you wouldn’t do more than a couple days and at that point you would eliminate cal/mag only flushing with pH’d water.

I grow in coco and have never used calmag. Any decent nutrient is going to have adequate amounts of Ca and Mg. Calmag is the most overused additive out there. Most people don't need it and excessive Ca can cause nutrient antagonism. It doesn't matter what you're growing in. I did straight flood and drain hydro for years and not once did I use calmag.

AN Jungle Juice and GH Flora Series don’t have a lot Cal or Mag(only 1.5%). I had some issues with lockout early on in my growing and found that I had to supplement it in order to get things back on track. That said, I’m on a municipal water supply that could be lower in calcium than yours.

That's the thing. People need to find out what's in their water. Most tap water and base nutrients supply all that's needed. I'm currently doing a coco run using just GH MaxiBloom. 5% Ca and 3.5% Mg.

The flora series has 5% Ca in the Micro and 1.5% in the bloom. More than enough Ca. If you need Mg it's best to just get 3-5 lbs of epsom salts for $5 which should last for years.

Lockout isn't from a lack of something but from too much of something.

My photoperiods plants go all of them in ground, with manure (cow/sheep mix), some times because of strain or conditions I add some biocanna flowering solution, but I never ever use cal/mag, I don't feel like I'm missing something, my flower always are great to me, so here my question, am I missing something? or cal/mag is more a thing for soilless and leds lights?

peace

Much of it has to do with your water source.

I use ro so if I don't mix calmag in after about 2 weeks I'll see deficiencies start to show up. I only mix 1/3 the amount on the bottle in my reg feed and it works great. I only stop using it a week or 2 before harvest not to 'flush' just to save on nutrient when it's not necessary to feed anyways (reg base nutes have some calcium and magnesium in it anyways just sometimes not enough)

A minor point, but only the Flora Micro has Calcium, Flora Bloom has some Mg and Sulfur + the PK

I read the same about calmag and do 2ml per gallon during veg but cut it to 1ml during flower. I think I heard something about only early on in Veg the Cal Mag helps with cell walls and it's not as needed in flower. I don't know how true that is but I read on here Cal mag is the most overused/unneeded product so I split the diff and just stick with those low numbers lol.

i see how GH winds down calmag during flower. sidenote: supposedly, Mills is designed to not require the addition of Calmag.
