Cali outdoor grow

I'm starting a grow in the California central valley as soon as my seeds get here. I will be planting 1 or 2 Afgans in a nearby field in a pretty hidden hard to get to spot. This is the first time I have ever grown, and I have been reading up on the forums. I will start the seeds in my closet with a cfl for a couple weeks before planting in a container in the field. I will post pics along the way and appreciate any advice!

I've heard people say they're kinda cheap/not ideal for cannabis.

I'm doing a central valley grow myself and I'm looking into water crystals/polymers and adding perlite to the soil for water retention. Valley heat can be intense...

Don't bother with the aqua globes.

I had originally thought the same in that perlite was only for drainage/aeration until I read into it more. It doesn't absorb as much as other materials (vermiculite) but it does have both aeration and water retention abilities, especially coarse perlite.

I would just start them outside instead of using cfl's. Just make sure to have some neem oil so you can spray your seedling to avoid mites and shit.
