So i can't find alot of info on this subject ... calcium hypoclorite ( pool shock) .. I found out about it while reading about ezclone issues and a product called clear rez . While this seems to work in the ez clone for starting clones to fend off bacteria/algie i am wondering if it would work good in a ebb n flo bucket system . Does anyone hear use the bulk type of calcium hypochlorite you can buy at pool and spa outlets in their rez?

Thats funny SS1 :) can't swim good so growing it is ... hydro newbie here .. setting up my first ebb n flo bucket system and some of the stuff i read scares the shit out of me , bacteria, slim, ect ect ... i just don't want to mess up my first run and have too many choices of what to put in my rez to control bacteria.algie .. confusing . The pool shock seems cheap at 1 gram per gallon .. just wondering if its used successfully or not .. if it breaks down nutrients or degrades potency ect ... if it works that good in an ez cloner then why not the rez , mind you ezcloner is just for starting them ... someone on here must be using it or tried it in a similar setup .. Clear rez is the same thing .. thats on the market .. people drink chlorinated water ...why can't plants ?

THE keys are cool water temps and a good beneficial bacteria like pondzyme. I don't even check temps anymore and sometimes go 2 weeks without changing nutes. Stay away from chemicals.

Ok i will avoid the chem's , will have to look into the benny's more i guess , all my buckets are black so should be zero light leaks, and my rez is 55 gal black with foil insulation around it to keep cold in and heat out .. if things go well after a run or two i may invest in a good quality chiller . Thanks for the advice !!!!!

When you say avoid the chems ...you mean avoid chemical nute's like general hydroponics flora series ect? Just wondering because i have 3 galons of the stuff here to use up :P

I mainly mean bleach and h2o2, but prefer to not use chemical nutes myself. In soil, in nature, the beneficials are there. In. hydo they need to be added.

Do you think the pond-zyme would work alright ith my general hydrponics flora nute's ?

It comes with a little scoop. I use half a scoop in 50 gallon fresh Res, and 1/4 scoop every 4-5 days. For dwc buckets i add about an 1/8 scoop. You can't hurt them with too much.

So not to disagree or anything but!!! If I am running synthetic nutes would I not be killing all the beneficials so not really of benefit. Just curiuos because I have never had slime but want to be prepared. I think the biggest help so far has been keeping res temps below 70 but I dont know that much about hydro so correct me if wrong. I do add H2O2 but actually forget most weeks so dont think it is really needed.

I am using sm-90 with a bit of calmag, bcuzz , and GH flora , small amounts to start , as i start using more flora i will cut the calmag and bcuzz out mostly ..keeping ph up at 6.2 so i can add more flora in the next few days to get it slowly down around ph 5.8 ... and lots of air lines to the rez and control bucket ..rez temp 67 dr. I'm scared of burning the young clones so starting @ 300 ppm on day one ..!
I have seen excellent results in moms and clones since i started using sm-90 and roots excel ...explosive roots ... the moms (soil) responded fantastic to a calmag / sm-90 diet ..with a bit of superthrive .

all i use is cal hyp. I use it in my cloner and in all my reservoirs. I believe it is the most cost effective way to keep your system sterile. SM-90 i have heard good things about but have never tried it. SS has some good ideas as well but i am new to using bennies to keep a healthy res. good luck!

I drained rez , sterilized everything , tossed clones and started over ... my clones had a hard life with a few ph swings and roots started to go brown in clone tent even bofore i set them into the hydrocorn , wasnt happy with the root development i was seeing ... lucky for me i was prepared for this with more clones...much healthier looking ones also . This time i am just using 300ppm GH flora (first 2 days) with a light dose of H202 in the rez (1ml/gal of 29%) . Hand watering the clones in the hydrocorn with roots excel a few times a day ... got some air stones in rez and control bucket also to keep things perky.
