Cabinet space and odor control.

These are the lights I have. These are What I will use. I think they fit my space and my application well.:peace: Thanks.

Just kind of daydreaming here and I am really chicken.

What I have is a space 5 ft long 3 ft deep and 33 inches tall. I have 2 4 ft florescent fixtures that hold 2 40 watt bulbs each and assorted fans.

This space has is near an ac duct. But venting it outside would be impossible. The room that it is in is in the house. I use the room as a work shop. No one goes in there.

I would need to keep the smell from oozing out. This would be my biggest problem. Could I use the same fan to circulate the air and suck it through a carbon filter at the same time? Would a 10 inch fan do that? How mutch carbon would I need? If I suck the air over the carbon to fast would it be worthless?

If I overcome my fear. I would try to grow a scrog. If I find a seed I would start the flower cycle asap at about 4 sets of leaves to keep things small. I only have an idea a little beyond vague about this. My lights are 4 ft long and if I put the fixtures together they are 10 inches wide. I am thinking make my screen 10 inches wide and 3 ft long to keep it under the best light.

How tall above the screen might the buds grow? Could I just keep sampling the ones that get to tall.?

I have to keep it under the 33 inches the pot and a space between the pot and the screen. The lights take up 4 inches if i bolt them to the celing. It would be easy enough to mount the screen to the pot and jack it up and down than to raise and lower the lights.

I went around the big box stores today to see what I could find. I found some carbon cartridges and some cut to fit. I bought the cut to fit. It is like an impregnated blanket. 16.5 X 48 inches.

Now the question is do I rig a box so that the air is pulled through the whole sheet? Or should I rig it where it pulls it through 2 or more layers? Or should I cut it in half and save one for a spare?

Cut in half it would be 384 square inches of filter. I will be pulling the air with gettomarts finest 9 inch fan.

Will this be even close to destinking one plant?

goog luck keeping the smels in with that. i tried a similar style with the sheets and they dont last long at all. i only have 2 plants not even 1 foot tall and my place stinks like weed. dont cheep out and get a real filter i know you eventualy will if you are going to be serious about growing.
spend cheep, spend twice. i have a copy of how to build a real one with activated carbon if interested. cost about 50 bucks to build depending on your cost of carbon.

yeah id rather pay 160 for a combo with a fan and a filter that will last over a year than build a DIY filter

my do it yourself you can replace you carbon when needed. carbon for me here is to much coin so i built it with fish carbon and it dont work. now i have given the odor sock a try. it works ok but it`s tricky to recharge properly.but i never have to replace it. they last forever and just through it in the wash and dry to recharge. mine was a 6 inch for 75 bucks. first charge lasted 4 months

ok i did some pic`s for ya. it may take a bit here to explain it it`s been a while since i made this.

the first picture is of the completed unit. the black outer you see are womens nylons x2

this one is of inside the filter

this is with the socks off. i used fine chicken wire for the screen

these are of the 2 tubes needed for it. on mine i have the inside tube 4 inch and the outer a 6 inch to match my fan. again the black stocking on the inside one also.

this is of the inside of tubes. on the larger outer one that is polyfill on the bottom of inside of tube.

this the bottom of inner tube. needs to be capped off. top open

this is the outer. same set up

the 2 caps are for the bottoms of tubes and the bigger reducer is for the top and both tubes fit in it. 4 inch to 6 inch.

Do you fill in between the two screens with granulated charcoal? Or do you use an impregnated blanket?

sorry i got a bit burnt last night and didn`t finish this.
once i build the 2 screens and cap the ends i first put some of the cotton stuff in the bottom of the large tube3 to 4 inches. then i place the smaller tube into the large one and hold it in the center while i pour the activated carbon inbetween the 2 screens. i leave enough room at the top for more cotton again. when you make the 2 tubes you need to calculate a bit. the inner tube must be a bit longer than the outer one. when you put the reducer on the top next the inner tube must go up into the inner hole on the reducer and the outer tube onto the outer ring of reducer,( obvious) i think when you look at the reducer shape you will see what i mean.
so now all you need to do is seal up all your seems with good aluminum yape, duct tape dosn`t last that long ( humidity and heat ).
so if you have any more questions fire away, oh all these parts are like 3 and 4 dollar parts except for the carbon. it`s expencive in bc for me
