Buying from abroad

Is buying smoking stuff like bongs and pipes while abroad safe? Would it be enough to tell customs that you bought the bong as a water pipe for herbal smoke if they see it on the xray machine thing? Any personal experience would be great too

it doesn't make any difference, the pieces are LEGAL as long as they are not used. you can bring back whatever you want...... the last time I went to Mexico, I brought back like 15 pipes, nobody said a thing (one was dirty too)

have racked up the frequent flyer miles over the years and when flying internationally,rolling papers are the most i have ever tried to bring with me.
clean and unused pipes and bongs may be legal but they will sure raise red flags and they will spend lots more time searching you,hopefully not a full body cavity one as well.domestic flights are not as stringent as international customs,but i still only priority mailed paraphanelia to myself when in another state.
