Burrowwing wasp in my soil

Hey All,

Went to my outdoor crop today, and saw a black flying wasp with a red abdomen flying around one of my potted girls...When I looked down I noticed a couple of holes in the soil that looked bored out by this wasp. I was able to kill it, but I wanted to know if anyone had an idea of what it might be, and also, how I can kill the larvae that may be still in the soil? Thanks!

Do you kill every insect near your plants? I believe that could have been a beneficial insect. Plus them holes could help aeration of your soil. I have never known wasps to be vegetarians so I do not think there was or is any potential harm to your plants from future wasps or their larva.

i have always called them mud wasps. i have had them in the ground before but never in a container of soil. they can be mean if you get them pssd at you. if i had one in my container, i would have killed it too. not sure how much damage they will do to your roots, but would imagine it would destroy some roots by it burrowing its hole.

I am pretty sure it was a spider wasp, which kills spiders among other small insects. Wasn't sure about whether it would hurt my plants or not, but couldn't risk it especially with the burrowing holes it was making. Hate killing any of God's creatures though.
