For the first week, you want to air out your jars for a few moments at least once a day. Just open all the jars and close them again once a day. While the jars are open, check on buds to determine the current humidity levels. You may also take this time to shake the jars and move buds around, to ensure there are no moist spots, and buds aren't sticking together in clumps. Leaving them open for 30-60 minutes a day should be fine and help ruduce ammonia smell and mold buildup... Good luck happy smoking
thanks Smokey,any idea what the moisture content should be before sealing up for long term storage?according to what i've been reading, I need to extend my cure time and i'm paranoid about leaving sealed up green/wet buds for any length of time.last year went from hung to done in less than a week.not good?

Yeah after you hang them for a week they should feel almost dry to touch and the stems should snap and not be bendy anymore then you put them into mason jars and do the burping process for atleast a month, two would be better the longer you do it the more dank and smooth the smoke will be but you definitely should keep an eye on the humidity level it shouldn't be over 50% if you keep opening the jars to let moister out...

Don't most people cure between 60-65% RH? I've got some buds curing and they're holding at 63% after a week of burping 3 times a day. I was thinking when they get a to two weeks of curing and the RH dropps below 60% I'd throw in some Bodeva 62's.

yeah 50% RH is too dry. That would make your bud brittle and crumbly. 60-65% is normal. Never above 65%...never below 58%

i bought these litte round meters,, and cut them into a few of my mason jar lids,, work perfect,,
I hang until day to the touch and stems barely snap, they dont break clean thru, you can just feel like popping your knuckles, then into jars,, burp daily, I would leave mine open and gently shake the buds so they bounce around a little ,, then watch the meters,

The bodeva 62 is some what idiot proof supposed to hold humidity at the magical 62% . Also I bought some tiny little hydrometers off eBay for 3.00$ each to put in each gar now I can check it and know exactly how much it is.

I tried 62% boveda's but didnt like them, I felt like they affected the taste of my flowers. I heard the integra boost packs work better but have not tried them yet. Now I just dry my flowers to ~60-65% and vac. seal my excess and store it in a fridge for long term. I have never had mold when doing a fridge cure and the smell is preserved very well IMO. I just keep around 1 oz outside for my daily smoke.
In Hawaii our RH is always above 70%, so burping jars is counter productive for us and just lets humidity in.
Those drying charts always fail to mention optimal drying temperatures. You want to keep your dry room on the cooler side...I try not to go above 80f if possible.

I'm using Bodeva to store my meds and I love them. To me they seem to help maintain or bring out the flavor. I've been smoking NYSD and Green Crack.
As far as hygrometers go I'm using the Caliber IV. Out of the box it was within 1% RH after running multiplr salt and Bodeva 24 hour tests. I have it perfectly calibrated now. It's small and fits well into a mason jar. https://www.amazon.com/Caliber-Digital-Hygromter-Western-Humidor/dp/B00JXOKQVW

With central air it stays about 70 degrees and 55-60% humidity in my place. Perfect for drying IMO.

Problem with those meters is accuracy...
at +-5% they are not very useful but will get close enuff for boveda to dial it in i guess. i have 3 of those installed in lids but recently switched to the Caliber IV-R, they are +-1% making them much more suitable for the 5% range we are trying to maintain but alas, they cost more.
Just my 2 cents no-one asked for. lol.

I have some vacuum packed weed around here thats over a year old,, still looks great, I was thinking about freezing some of the vacuum pack meds,, i once read where a guy stored it for years this way

Yeah, some of the more esteemed ice hash makers say that freezing the herbs damages the trichomes or causes them to burst. I prefer the fridge as it keeps the temps cold but you don't risk getting freezer burn or overly dried out herb. When kept on the fridge, it smells and looks exactly as the day it was packaged.
Scott from rare dankness has also mentioned that he does a fridge cure on some strains because the normal jar cure can change the smell undesirably. He mentioned the faceoff og in particular smelled like an old grandpa if jar cured and preferred to smoke it immediately after it was dried or stored in the fridge.
