Crews in Anderson County took to the air and ground on Monday searching for marijuana.

"They have 95 counties to work and few days to do it, so it's a hurried thing," Anderson County Sheriff Paul White said.

It's a hurried process with a whole lot of time hanging around, as surveillance is in progress. Crews stood by in Clinton on Monday just waiting for a sign of the pot from above.

"Anywhere that it's growing, it's going to be visible from the air, unless it's an inside grow," White said.
About a dozen members of the Governor's Task Force on Marijuana Eradication and the Anderson County Sheriff's Department teamed up to tackle the drugs.

"This was real easy access. As a matter of fact, you won't find it much easier access than this," White said.
Once helicopters spotted the plants' trademark blueish and fuzzy leaves from the sky, they radioed ground crews with its exact location.

"Sometimes it can be booby-trapped. They'll have snare pits. If you step on it, there will be prongs coming out of the ground that go into your ankle and leg," White said.

After a site in the Dutch Valley area of the county was ruled safe, investigators invited our camera in for a peak. The bust uncovered close to a dozen plants. One of them stood at least five feet tall. "This is basically the stepping stone. It's the first step of the stepping stone to go to harsher drugs most the time," White said.

The crews on Monday chopped the marijuana and will eventually burn it.
Several months of growing is gone is in minutes, but the area isn't left completely empty.

"Sometimes we leave a calling card to let them know we got it. If they want to call and talk to us about it, we will gladly do that," White said.

Sheriff White said in the last 20 years, at least three people have taken him up on the offer.

The Governor's Task Force on Marijuana Eradication searches for marijuana from mid-May to mid-October. That's the plants' prime growing time. Numbers are still below average because of the drought, but they are up from last year.

I wanna do outdoors but I don't live very far from that county and that is troubling me...opinions people??

"The bust uncovered close to a dozen plants."

I would like to know how much it cost to have a helicopter with armed men fly around all day long? How much did it cost to pay the ground teams?

Is it really worth the money to get these 12 dangerous plants off the street? (actually not even 12, they said close to a dozen, how many is that? Is it 7 and they rounded it up? )

A brand new fully equiped police chopper is going to run you at least 2M. It costs at least 500 dollars to fill it up. Although they can go a couple hundred miles on one tank...I don't think it's very cost effective to run a chopper for 12 plants. Especially when you include the pay of the pilot and other officers involved. It's a huge waste of tax payer dollars. I could see if they found 1200. But 12 c'mon.

Cops pay taxes too - so they're shelling out cash as well, and for what...to be assholes to someone growing for personal use..

I don't believe them about growers having pits with stakes in them! The last thing I would want near my crop is a rotting dead guy lying around! or worse the guy with stakes in his ankles so he dies slowly and loudly, or try to escape crawling and moaning, probably getting blood all over my plants. That's bad for business!!! no thanks, i'll take the loss, just my opinion :P

Lol when you fall into a snare pit it is about knee deep. It is just ment to stab the fuck out of your legs so someone cannot continue on walking(mainly thieves).
You are picturing like someone falling 15 feet and getting impaled like on mortal combat huh?
I thought htat too but I looked it up haha

i'd have to agree with those who said about the tax dollars. your looking at atleast $10,000 just for the man power to pull 12 plants out of the ground? this is one the lines of the government trying to send barry bonds and roger clemens to jail for taking steroids. i think this country has much big, badder criminals and rapist that belong in jail, not the home run king.

I agree with you all...they just wanna make weed seem terrible and dangerous to everyone that otherwise doesn't know better. I grew up thinking weed was horrible and that it really could kill people until I started smoking it. They had me so convinced that it could make people die. Hell when I got high for the first few times I checked my friends breathing when they slept to make sure they were still alive. I got online...found this website and finally learned that mary jane is a best friend not a killer.

Should I worry about these searches? They claimed to have searched a ton of counties and pretty thorough as well...don't wanna get caught in a mess if you know what I mean

Could you imagine that two of our senators...SENATORS...were busted for being homosexual and one trying to solicit sex in public? Fire everyone in government..replace them with intellectual potheads and I bet we will be much better off.
