Building a simple cabinet IN a closet?

So I was thinking it's time to hide my plants a bit better since I have new neighbors moving in nown and they're starting to smell a lot (still only in veg). I live in a corridor with 12 people.

Smell and visibility are my only issues. I don't mind my room smelling like a little bit of weed but I cant have it smelling out in the hallway.

Im on a TIGHT budget so I wont be building anything fancy. I do have a tall closet in my room and I'm planning on growing on a shelf in the upper half of it (see picture).

Problem is I can't make modifications to my closet, so the door is gonna have to stay open for ventilation. Would covering the grow space with a piece of wood with holes for filtered circulation be enough to keep smell in or would the walls have to be COMPLETELY tight? Remember I DO NOT need to eliminate smell 100% from my room, just make sure what's let out doesnt smell strong enough to be detected outside my door.

Thankful for ideas and input!

I've been lucky with chill neighbors so far. We would smoke all day with our doors open and noone would care. There's a new group of people moving in in august though. So yeah, I definitely have reason to be careful.

Make a box out of wood, cut ventilation holes, fit mylar etc..
Get yourself a carbon filter...
No one will know. just keep the door slightly open for ventilation..
you may have a problem with temperature but get to that when you've built the box.

Okay, yeah thats not a bad idea. And heat will likely not be a problem since I'm using 40W CFL's. I can touch them and they wont burn me.

just make a carbon filter and hook it into a 6" inline fan ($25, 250cfm) then put that close to the plants. most of the air will be drawn to the filter (negative pressure environment) and expelled with no odor. just be careful if you run an osolating fan, that will blow the air around and some smell may escape the closet.
