Bufo Alvarius- What Do You Do? Lick the Thing?

In Hawaii, you have Bufo marinus or Cane Toads. NOT Sonoran Desert Toads which are Bufo Alvarius. There are major differences between the venoms of these completely different species of poisonous toad. Most noteable, is the lack of 5-MeO-DMT in the cane toad. Licking a cane toad will leave you open to serious injury. They are not the same critter.

i have Bufo marinus or Cane Toads everywhere. I used to catch them as a kid.

On another note, Do you think i could get one at a discount?

And what's the deal with Que Shea? Do u take it b4 meals? I hear the instructions are in chinese?

The Que She: Take 2 pills from each bottle twice a day for a week. Then 1 pill from each bottle twice a day until gone. Yes, the instructions are in chinese, but they printed up a fact sheet in English that they send along with every order. Maybe 3x a day. I can't remember, but it is in the fact sheet.

Discount on toads is possible. The people that run BBB are super super chill. And it is super chilly in KS right now. You would literally have to call and talk to them about it. They are not going to discount a big, fat healthy toad most likely. But since it is winter, they may have some that are distressed. If you can get a distressed toad to rebound, then I am sure those cats would have no problem compensating you for the trouble in the form of a discount. Pretty sure they would compensate you if the toad didn't make it, (within a reasonable amount of time) but you would really have to talk to them about it.

wtf why are people tellin this guy that licking a toad is like DMT? There is nothing like DMT... its the substance in your brain that makes you dream. In fact, the only 2 times you naturally trip on DMT is when you dream right before REM sleep and right before you die.

Oh... and dont fkn lick a toad or milk it or whatever the fk that's just stupid in my opinion.

I wish you ignorant druggy fucks could learn to read already. I specifically said that DMT is orally inactive without an MAOI. Which is absolutely true.

There is nothing like DMT in Bufo Alvarius toad venom? Maybe you should look it up first before you make yourself look even more ignorant because you are ABSOUTELY WRONG!!!! 5-MeO-DMT to be exact.

The rest of what you said is just blah blah blah. The REM thing is common knowledge. The right before you die thing, well that is just conjecture unless you or anyone else can produce for medical science a dead person to describe their death trip.

As for licking or milking toads being stupid in your opinion... whatever. In my opinion YOU are stupid! You proved it like 4 times in as many sentences.

Ya, I guess I am a little high strung. Reading comprehension is essential for keeping an open line of communication. I have little patience for people who feel like they have to interrupt the flow of conversation because they are too lazy to read what is right in front of them. I welcome the contributions of others, but if you push me, I'm gonna push back.

Licking the toad will have no effect at all. DMT is inactive orally in the absence of an MAOI. Smoing the dried venom is the way to do it, but you will also be smoking bufotoxins and other dangerous compounds. Probably perfectly safe, but you might develop a twitch. There is a youtube video that explains the milking process in detail.
You may know something about toads, but i don't think you know shit about MAOIs. MAOIs are not intended to facillitate synergistic reactions with other drugs, quite the opposite...the most serious precaution accompanying their use is to make sure and avoid concommitant ingestion of sympathomimetic substances (tyramine, etc) . Advocating their use to enhance ones toad-licking experience is negligent at best and could be criminal if someone dies following your advice. Put that in your pipe and smoke it :-P

I made no claim to know a thing about MAOI's. I do not use MAOI's. I simply said that DMT is orally inactive in the absence of MAOI. I made no statement or have any understanding of synergystic sympathomimetic concommitant whatever the fuck you said, and frankly all of that has nothing to do with what I'm talking about.

To spell it out for you- Licking the toad will have no effect at all. OMG, I already said that! You have a reading disorder too. Where in that statement do I advocate using MAOI to enhance a toad-licking experience?

I'm not here to talk anyone into or out of doing anything that they are already going to do. I do not think that is my prerogative. I'm just a guy sharing my solicited knowledge of the Sonoran Desert Toad. 99% of the info being shared on these forums is "negligent at best and could be criminal," Mr. Obvious so tell me something I don't know.

I'm in the same boat you are. I was really enjoying all the information you were providing before people come in and give stupid pointless comments.

One question I have is, what is the lowest temperature that the toads can survive in hibernation. I live in Michigan and it gets pretty damn cold. So im just wondering if i would have to make some sort of indoor terrarium large enough to store them or not.

I don't really have a citable answer to this question. I can give some educated speculation, though. The range of these toads is southern AZ, NM, CA. So clearly they like nighttime temps that are typical in these areas. I am not sure of the factors involved in their hibernation. Lower temps? Less food? When they hibernate, they go under ground. Indeed, they go underground when they aren't hibernating too and they come out at night to feed. Underground temperatures are pretty constant no matter where you are on the planet (between 52 and 58 degrees F below the frostline.) Yes haters, I know there is no frostline in most parts of AZ. Regardless of where you live, you would want to tailor their habitat to be consistent with their natural environment. This would absolutely imply that you would want to use an indoor enclosure if you lived in MI year round. In the part of the country I live, summer temps can get as high as 115 and in July and August temps can stay above 100 degrees for several straight weeks. For this reason, BBB keeps their toads outside during the summer. Outdoor housing also gives them more area to hunt and roam about and more personal space.

My toad, 7 of 9 lives year round in a covered 75 gallon aquarium that I have filled 18 inches deep with a substrate that she can dig up and tunnel into. I never even see her 4 months out of the year as she never comes to the surface. I also use her enclosure to house up to a dozen of BBB's toads during the winter just to keep them healthy. When they are active though, it is just 7 of 9. They can be territorial and very aggressive when feeding, and they are not below eating other toads. I used to use a heating pad under the tank on one side, but I found it unnessesary.

Wow thanks for the info. Are they hard to breed at all? I've delt with a bit of snake breeding but thats probably not the same.

I have not had any luck breeding them, but I haven't made any honest attempts, either. At BBB they may have 200 toads at a time, but they have never had any tadpoles appear.

But it seems reasonable that if you put a bunch of 'em together, took care of the water in such a way that their eggs did not get tossed out while cleaning, and made their environment condusive to breeding, then it seems like at some point you could expect a Jurassic Park style, "life will find a way" situation at least every now and then. Even Pandas will breed in captivity if their situation is controlled correctly, albeit very rarely.

Alright, 1 more question. Any idea on the life span? Dont wanna just let em die before im ready to milk em.... if i so decide.

So far, I have given it to you based on my experience with these toads, but I would just be regurgitating this information, so:

http://www.erowid.org/archive/sonoran_desert_toad/caresheet.htm

Bufo alvarius toads can live for surprisingly long times. In general, toads will live from about 5 to 15 years, but the oldest recorded specimen (not B. alvarius) lived to the age of 36.

Longevity of three B. alvarius toads in captivity:
15 Years, 5 Months. Gender unknown, acquired 09/09/70 as an adult. Died 02/25/86.
11 Years, 8 Months. Female, acquired 09/08/81 as a juvenile. Wild bred. Died 06/04/93. Collected at 1.5".
9 Years, 2 Months. Gender unknown, acquired date unknown as an adult. Wild bred. 1977.
