Bud to butter ratio and cooking help

Hey everyone,

Today I'm making cannabutter for the first time. I will be using buds (the stuff you smoke) not trim for my butter. Most recipes call for 1 ounce of trim to one pound of butter (from what I read) but I don't know what ratio to use for buds. The stuff I have is pretty good (not brick style stuff full of sticks and seeds). Green, fluffy, sticky and very smelly (just to give you a good idea of its quality). How much do you think I should use per pound (or stick) of butter?

Also, if any of you have any good techniques for cooking the butter I would very much appreciate it. I would prefer ways that maximize the extraction of THC!

I am also planning on making cookies with the butter and I was also wondering of how much to make. Ideally I want about half a cookie per dose. I plan on using a whole ounce of good bud with whatever amount f butter is suggested. Then once the butter is done I am wondering what ratios to use to make the cookies. I don't want to have to eat 3-4 cookies for the buzz and at the same time don't want to eat half a cookie and blow my head off.

Sorry for the many questions but I am very new to this and I'm trying to figure this out so I don't end up wasting the weed.

One final question... Do I need to decarb the weed before I boil it with the butter? Would 200 degrees for 20 minutes do it?

you are talking super specifics here!

i dont know if i will hit every answer, but please enjoy what you can out of this:

i used to use 1 oz per 1 stick of butter, low low simmer for 10 hrs or so.. shit wreaked the complex :p butter came out potent but very weed tasting, every time..

along the ways, many people told me how they made it.. ONE stuck out though.. a ganja veteran (chick) told me this:

the recipe is very simple.

- 1 cup of butter
- 1 cup of water
- 1 cup of weed (nugs work straight into it, try and break down the nugs to very small chunks with hand though till fill up cup better)
- cheesecloth
- seal-able tuperware container
- stove and pot

directions:
you want to get the butter and water to a simmering state.
next you add and mix weed into butter very good. get pot back to a simmering state.

for the next 30-45 minutes, you stir every thing around, you want to make sure you dont burn anything, the water will evap here, (but separates mostly as it cools) stir stir sir!

after that you strain the butter into a Tupperware container, using the cheesecloth as a screen to separate the weed from the Tupperware holding your fresh squeezed cannabutter.

after youve strained the most butter you can into the TupperwAre, the butter needs to go directly into the fridge.

the butter will solidify, while the water separates, after the butter has solidified enough, pour out water.

and you are ready to cook!

MY MORE PREFERRED METHOD:

- 10 grams of hash (i use honey oil :] )
- 1 stick of butter
- small pot
- stove

Easiest quickest recipe ever:

Melt butter down, then you stir in the hash, like super stir the shit into the butter, do this for about 10 minutes or so,

and ya, you could either let it cool down, or cook with it right away!

i like to let it get to about 80 ish degrees then i mix it into my cookie batch.

safeway cookies, bag can make 24 1-2 in cookies with 1 stick of butter

i make 30+ 1 inch cookies , I recommend 1 cookie a dose here. I take 2-3 and boooom

I once made the two recipes combined, I first made the weed butter with the good trim, and then, with that weed butter, i made the hash butter... the end result was marvelous :] the little 1 inch cookies i made we double doses :] 3 would be too much for me every time ( twice :p )

ooo, i meant to recommend this..

try out my quick method side by side, with another method someone else recommends.. with the same exact weed batch on both..

im sure this sounds iffy to you, i thought it wouldnt work, but hell, it did and it does, so yup, i stay with it, i dont like stinking the shit out of my place, even this quick method wreaks it for half a day or so..

good luck ! if you plan on doing this again, i would practice as much as you can with this current batch.

Guzias,

Thanks for the help!

The only parts that I am a little uncertain about are:

1. Since I am using the flowers and not the trim, should I use the same or less? If less, what ratio?

2. Should I bake the buds at 200F for 20-30 to decarb it? Or is that not necessary since I will be cooking it in butter? (I ask because some people say that if your buds are a bit most and sticky like mine that you should bake it and make it dry in the oven before cooking it)

If you don't have specific answers to these questions it's ok.Hopefully someone else can answer them for me!

ive never heard of baking weed in oven, never tried it either.. if you are curious, you should try it out :]
i dont know know much about how it works, but it does, im going to try a hash and coconut oil recipe next up..

And as far as flowers/ or trim, us the same ratio.. But chop/break up the buds as much has you can before hand..
