Bud from a fan leaf?

I've had this happen a few times, although never on a sativa. I'm inclined to believe that it's a genetic thing that simply expresses itself independent of external conditions, since this doesn't happen all the time and I always have the exact same conditions.

Try making a clone from the leaf. It would be very interesting to see what happened.

If you can be bothered doing this, post your results in this thread in the advanced cultivation forum. It's a 40+ page long discussion about cloning from fan leaves, although the best anyone there has done is to get a leaf to root, and no more. I think this leaf could beat that, and make that thread a little more interesting. :-P

That's sweeeeeet! That would be cool if you could master a new strain that grew buds on all it's fan leaves and did it's normal bud too! I'd love to try that! Any ideas how you made it do that or what might have caused it?

I haven't done anything different, I top all my plants and prune the anything below canopy line so nothing out of the ordinary

That's wierd alright. Friend of mine had an orange bud plant that did that, but the stem of the leaf was about 8" long and had bud about 3/4 of the way down it. The bud looked, smelt and smoked exactly the same as the rest of the plant and we never did figure out what caused it, but this is the first I've heard of another plant doing the same. It must be some sorta genetic mutation but who knows wtf causes it.

lol im so tempted to make a photoshop pic of a bud on a fan leaf just to add fuel to the fire haha

you could create that image in real life, just cut the top of the plant off where that leaf exist so energy will be shifted the the lower part of the plant to grow back and concentrate a nice amount of energy towards that leaf, but you might be suseptable to herming plants and severe shock, but if it worked then that would be cool, u could be like,yo i just harvested some leaf bud.

I have smoked Jamaican weed that grew like this once. I didnt know WTF to think at first, all the buds were like that, and super crystally leafs that looked like fan leafs.

It got me stoned, I think its genetic trait that has probably been avoided. Its probably a recessive gene like hermies. People probably normally destroy plants like this and their offspring so you dont get continuing generations. Obviously the low yield would be a good reason to do this.

Its definitely very interesting though, and something that should be researched more. Im still stoked an the new triple node strains.....fan leafs that grow buds, thats just too much, lol.

I guess this proves that Fan leaves Can be cloned and forced to produce new growth instead of stretching, if it can form bud, why not new leaf growth?

:peace:
