Buckets in a line?

My original plan was to have a 7 bucket (one of which is the controller) DWC system. I had envisioned a ~200gph water pump that would pump through a line out of the controller and then branch (using "t" barbs) to each bucket. The buckets would then each have a return line that would take water back to the controller.

After my visit to the hydro store, I was told by the owner that this wouldn't work (pump to strong and the last buckets wouldn't maintain the proper water level) and that I needed a smaller water pump ~10gph and then to connect each bucket in a line that continues in somewhat of a circle returning to the controller.

I am wondering, is this guy is right? Would both work? Is one better than another?

From what I hear this guy is right.... but another option would be to make larger holes in each bucket and use larger tubing so that the water can flow unrestricted.... so your options are either a smaller pump or larger holes in each bucket.

Thank you, Luther, I appreciate the advice. I want to do this with 1/2 inch tubing, which seems pretty large to me. What do you think?
