Bubble hash question

Hello. I finally got my bubble bags in the mail. My first attempt was with some filter bags for brewing alcohol. Didn't work too well. So i decided to opt for the 5 gallon 8 bag set so i wouldn't need to get more bags later. Unfortunately i only have an oz of some pretty decent material. Which bags should i use? I know i have to use the 220 and 25 micron bag, but should i use all 8 for such little material?

when you say an ounce, do you mean an ounce of bud? Go for 160, 45, 25.(no science behind that answer, just figure it sounds good.) Post the results.

Sometimes I feel bubble/sieved hash should have its own section

Not to many of the regulars down here make it..we use mainly solvents
I suggest a lot of Googling. You can add riu or a certain persons name

Or you can see if someone won't answer in rize or frenchies thread...only 2 I know of...french cannoli his name is

Frenchies is more active..go there

If you have questions about processes(chemistry) behind anything come back..

Yup. I have an ounce of bud. Not quite dank but definitely not mids or reggie. 160, 45,25 it is.

I don't care what anybody says: Bubble hash tastes awesome on top of some bud. With oil being easy to extract many overlook the simplicity of making bubble hash due to the low yield but I say if you want to make some go for it- you will enjoy the results. Only 1 oz will not make a ton of hash- expect less than a gram or 2 depending upon quality of trims. Some use only 3 bags but I suggest using at least 5 because it breaks up all the grades....you do not need all 8 though..I use these bags in this order 220 160 90 74 45 25. Your 45 & 74 bags will always collect the best hash but save the 160 & 25 bags to either make oil or hash-butter(yum). 90 hash can be smokable depending upon the quality of trim/harvest time/strain. I learned everything I know about making bubble hash from Matt rize's tutorial sticky at the top of the C & E section here on RIU. Good luck post your results!!!

I decided to use the 220, 160, 90, 45, 25. I extracted 3.5 grams. I started out with 25 grams of half way decent bud. I did two runs. The first yielded the most and I was able to get some from the 90, 45, and 25 bags. The second run was a lot less only being able to get some hash from the 45 and 25. The bulk of what i got was from the 45 bag the first extraction. However the 90 bags looks more blond. the 45 looks a little darker. The 25 bag is dark green almost black. All of it is kill shit though.

The size of your trichomes usually corresponds to harvest time. Most trichs are between 50 and 100 microns which means your 45 & 74 bags will usually be the most potent but a 90 bag can also be very good depending upon your harvest times. I tend to harvest on the early side so my trichs are usually small. Having a lot of 90 trichs shows you likely waited till full maturity or later to pull buds. I'm not one to critique your shit but it looks a bit green to me meaning you picked up some chlorophyll in your hash which is a common bubble hash issue...next time try to be even more gentle & let the cold do most of the work. Get yourself a spray bottle & spray the hell out of each bag with very cold water onto the trichs collected from each bag to try & push through some of that green back into the water. You are better off doing more washes with less agitation than grinding your material to a green pulp. Use the 25 shit to make hash butter & enjoy smoking the rest!
I like to press out as much water as possible on a screen with paper towels underneath & combine my washes into separate grades. I then chop it all up into sand with a razor on glass Pyrex to dry for an hour or so. Then I push it into a pyramid shape....why? Because it makes it easy to cure that way in a little jar but it never lasts very long. I've been making a lot of shit into oil these days but I do miss doing bong loads with a fat chunk of tasty hash on top. (Sigh) five more weeks...

Sativas also have huge trichs in comparison
with fewer of them
The outer coating on trichs is waxy nastiness...having less trichs but bigger means a higher ratio of cannabinoids to waxes..yum...also makes better shatter

Good day

Looks like your having fun. I have been wanting to pick up some bags to make dry ice wax but it looks like its some $300 for a 5 bag 5 gallon kit. Ridiculous for some screens.

Have you looked into that at all, since you got the bags. It's only some dry ice and a melt down away as I understand it.

I thought that it was the other way around...

Indica = Fatter Trichs
Sativa = Smaller Trichs

I have been wrong before though.

Just wanted to point something out....

Noticed OP drying hash on cardboard.....

As this used to be common practice...
But, the cardboard is literally eating up your potency.

Why?
Bubble hash is very resinous and contains essential oils..

Not only does the cardboard leach out the water, but also leaches the oil into the cardboard.

Always dry your hash on a non-porous surface, i.e. glass.

I am new to concentrates and have only done bubble and butter so far but I compensate for the low yield by putting my leftovers in a pot to make butter. The bags won't get 100% of your medicine out so I take my water and trim straight to a big ol chili pot and add butter.

As for which bags to use. I usually only use the trash bag, 25mc and 2 in between. I don't need 19 grades of hash... Too much work to use 8 bags. Ain't nobody got time for that. Having 3 grades is enough for me. I guess it is just personal preference. You won't lose any, you will just have a larger yield of mixed grade. I like to have a 25mc "10" primo hash and then the next level down might only be an 8 because it is basically a mix of 7,8,9.

Scotty if your best quality is in your 25 microns bag, you are way off in your process. Mature trichomes size range between 70 and 120 microns. Do the math……..

You should use the 190 as a catch bag, 160 as a "quality check" (you sometimes find oversized trichomes in the 160 depending on strains), the 70 and 45
