bubble cloner hole spacing?

i'm making my first bubble cloner and was about to drill the holes when I began wondering about the spacing. Is it ok to cram them close together? If the cuttings leaves were touching would it be ok? I'm drilling 1" holes then will use foam pipe insulation to wrap the stems and place in the holes.
I guess it would be more about space for the roots?

The spacing seems fine. You can cut the leaf tips on your clones, it helps with air circulation and some say it stops that leaf from growing and starts new leaf production. I just know that the clones still grow well with tips cut back.
