i'm no electrician by any means, i take things out of the box and plug them in, at worst put a plug on them.
to recommend that you use something that could potentially kill you, in hind sight seems irresponsible, if you are in any doubt about the safety of the product do not use it.

i risk my life all the time doing stupid things i shouldn't be teaching others how to adopt my carefree approach lol.

So would I be right in beliving the ceramic is there for heat insulation on electrical insulation ?
ceramic is not only an insulator but non- conductor, to keep you from electrocuting self and or others who may not know, you can pick up replacement fairly cheap, vids on wiring.

Just an update for you guys I went to the electrical supply store here after a suggestion from a friend and managed to pick up 2 sockets for 20$

I hope you know how to wire a screw in fitting?

Does phase go to the middle pin or outer pin? - It goes to the middle pin - always.

Wonder what would happen if you wire to the outer pin, well, you see where you broken the ceramic off, that would become live. Center pin is always phase!
